How to Unlock and Buy Weapons in Splatoon 3

Weapons are the integral part of of Splatoon and despite the number of weapons that will be in Splatoon 3, not all of them will be available on the get go. To bring some more challenge, most of the weapons will have to be purchased using a special currency, and earning such currency requires some skills, and definitely a lot of dedication.

In this guide, we will be talking about how to unlock and purchase weapons in Splatoon 3.

    Ammo Knights

How to obtain new weapons in Splatoon 3

The main way to obtain new weapons in Splatoon 3 is by purchasing them through the Ammo Knights store run by Sheldon. The store only accepts a special kind of currency called Sheldon Licenses.

    Sheldon Licenses

Sheldon Licenses can be obtained through various ways:

    • Obtained by leveling up your character’s catalog level
    • Obtained by leveling up your character
    • Obtaining Freshness levels from weapons

These Sheldon Licenses can then be spent on weapons that are being sold at the shop. Usually, unlocked weapons cost only one license. When you start, not all weapons can be purchased right away as better weapons will be locked behind level progression. As you gain levels, more and more weapons will become available for purchase.

Sheldon can allow you to purchase weapons higher than your level for more license

However, Sheldon can allow you to purchase a weapon that is higher than your current level just by paying more licenses for it. Purchasing a higher weapon early may give you an advantage, as long as you know how to use it to its full potential.

How to get free Sheldon Licenses

If you have a save data of Splatoon 2 on your Switch, you can transfer it over to Splatoon 3 and you will get some in-game bonuses, one of which is three (3) Sheldon Licenses that you can use right away.

    How to increase Freshness levels

Freshness levels is Splatoon’s version of weapon mastery. The more you use the weapon, the more Freshness XP it gets, with points awarded on wins. Once a certain amount of XP is reached, the weapon will gain a Freshness level or tag. A total of five Freshness tags can be obtained per weapon.
