Kirby and the Forgotten Land has a multiplayer co-op mode where a second player can join in and play as Bandana Waddle Dee. In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, we find Kirby in another adventure after getting whisked away into a different world. Good thing our pink squishy hero is not alone in this journey.
In this guide, we will look into Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s multiplayer mode and on how it can easily be set up.
Is Kirby and the Forgotten Land a Multiplayer game?
Yes, Kirby and the Forgotten Land has a multiplayer mode, couch co-op is available, and Bandana Waddle Dee is your second player. Despite the fact that Bandana Waddle Dee lacks the ability to absorb his opponents’ skills, he is a powerful character that is very fun to play with.
Will Kirby and the Forgotten Land have online co-op?
There is no online co-op for Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Kirby and the Forgotten Land does not offer online multiplayer co-op for those who want to play with a friend who is not in the same household. There is also no news from the Devs of adding this feature and the only available option for multiplayer in Kirby and the Forgotten Land is local co-op play.
Despite the lack of an online co-op system, players wishing to explore the Forgotten Land will still find the latest Kirby game to be a rewarding experience.
How to Unlock the Multiplayer Mode for Kirby and the Forgotten Land?
To Unlock the Multiplayer Mode for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, first, you must complete the first course of the game, the Point of Arrival, which serves as its tutorial. Once you meet Kirby’s other companion named Elfilin and get on the star at the end of the level, you will then unlock the co-op mode.
Once you’ve completed the introduction of the game, simply pause it and select Play Co-op to bring in Bandana Waddle Dee to assist you in the succeeding levels or boss fights.
How Many Players Can Play Multiplayer in Kirby and the Forgotten Land?
In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, just one additional participant can join the game. The maximum number of players can only be two, with the second player taking on the role of Bandana Waddle Dee in the game.
While Kirby Star Allies and Kirby Return to Dreamland previously allowed for four-player co-op multiplayer, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the first Kirby game to be made on the Nintendo Switch. We are hoping that it’s possible for the devs to expand on this gameplay on future updates and can add more players just like the previous titles.

Bandana Waddle Dee Can and Can’t Do’s
As Bandana Dee, there are things that you can do that Kirby can’t, and vice versa.
Bandana Waddle Dee can…
- Throw unlimited spears. You don’t run out of spears and you can provide some backline support for Kirby. You can even throw spears while on Kirby’s back on Mouthful Car mode, essentially turning into a tank.
- Rescue other Waddle Dees. Instead of Kirby, Bandana Waddle Dee can fetch the caged Waddle Dees.
- Join boss fights. Taking down bosses should become faster with two players working together.
- Revive. If Bandana Waddle Dee gets knocked out, as long as Kirby is still standing, he can revive and rejoin Kirby after a timer goes up.
- Share food. Just do a quick bump and a high-five and you can give Kirby some food when needed.
Bandana Waddle Dee cannot…
- Use Copy Abilities. Sadly, only Kirby can use copy abilities. Bandana Waddle Dee has some cool spear attacks and combos, though.
- Use Mouthful Mode. Do Waddle Dees even have mouths?
- Stray away from the screen. The camera is only centered on Kirby, so if Bandana Waddle Dee strays away from the screen, he will get whisked by a bubble back into frame.
Bandana Waddle Dee Moves and Attacks
Despite just having his trusty spear, Bandana Waddle Dee still has some awesome moves that he can do with it.
- Spear Jab – Tap B several times to jab his spear multiple times, finishing the combo with a spin and shockwave that moves forward further.
- Spear Throw – Hold B while moving the analog stick to aim where to throw spears at. He can throw three spears at a distance.
- Spear Rain – Hold B without moving the analog stick to make Bandana Waddle Dee hover in the air using his spear like a helicopter. While hovering, he can move around as he makes spears rain down from below him.
- Guard – Press and hold SL and SR together to crouch down and guard incoming attacks.
Playing on Co-op is definitely a fun experience that can make clearing a stage much faster, or just a fun way to have a younger sibling or your kid play with you without taking too much out of your own playing experience.
