Microsoft’s xCloud Can Be Used to Try Out Games Streamed Online

Game company Microsoft recently announced that it will launch Project xCloud streaming for free to its the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers this coming September. This service will allow players to play games on mobile devices or start the game on their console and then continue on the phone or tablet.

Aside from that main feature, Microsoft actually has bigger ambitions with this new service. Microsoft’s Xbox Chief Phil Spencer discussed this further with The Verge in an exclusive interview.

“There’s an ease of browsing and buying capability on xCloud that I find incredibly valuable today,” says Spencer. “Many times the first time I play a game will actually be on xCloud, so I can go and use it as my snackable trial experience.”

The plan is to allow gamers to use the xCloud as a way to try out Xbox games quickly and easily. Players could easily join their friends playing the game they are currently downloading temporarily and when it gets completed, they can resume with their own. They can also just easily click a link from Facebook Gaming and go from there.

“We want that trial to be as easy as it is in music and video today, where I can send you a track in Spotify today and you can stream it instantly,” says Spencer. “Over time, anywhere I see a game I should be able to give it a try.”

With Project xCloud, players can just start streaming it anytime they see a game on any device or web browser in the future. Viewers who only had the ability to watch others play the game can now have the option to try it as well via the Project xCloud streaming.
