Mojang has recently announced that it will end development on Minecraft Dungeons three years after launch and hitting a new milestone.
The studio revealed that Minecraft Dungeons has now hit an impressive 25 million players after three years since launch and so it will end development. This meant there would be no newer content coming to the game in the future.
Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon crawler spin-off that became available in May 2020 and was released on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It then became available on Xbox Series X/S in February 2021.
Mojang revealed that Minecraft Dungeons started as a passion project for them, but it exceeded their wildest dreams. According to the post, every journey has an end and this was it. Update 1.17 which was released late last year has become the last update for the game. The studio is now moving on to new projects in order to continue to explore experiences in the Minecraft universe.
“We do intend to continue bringing new experiences to the Minecraft universe and give our team the freedom to keep exploring the types of games they’re passionate about — just as they did with Dungeons!” Mojang continued.
Minecraft Dungeons will continue to be online and playable. Players can still explore the dungeons, conquer ancient hunts, and topple a Tower whose layout will continue to rotate.
