Nintendo is applying for a subpoena on Discord to force it to reveal a leaker who shared content details of an upcoming art book for The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
Last February 2023, someone posted images on Reddit of a particular art book that was not supposed to be revealed yet. It was an art book for the upcoming video game Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, which was going to launch a few months after. The leaker used the username JustJulienOffic and was called on Discord as Julie#2743. They claim that a “friend” sent them the art book images.
Based on the Collector’s Edition that was revealed previously, this art book would be included. According to the leaker, this is a “little over 200 pages” in length.
At that time, only a few took the leak seriously and was still on the fence if it was true or not. Now that Nintendo has taken action, it seems the leaked images are true. Nintendo applying for a subpoena actually proved that the leaks were true after all. The game company is now trying to find out who this Julien is so that it can finally take legal action.
According to the website TorrentFreak, Nintendo filed an application on April 4, 2023 for a DMCA subpoena at a district court in California. If this passes, Discord will be ordered “to disclose the identity, including the name(s), address(es), telephone number(s), and e-mail address(es) of the user Julien#2743, who is responsible for posting infringing content that appeared” on the Discord channel in question.
The original post was removed by Reddit moderators already, but this is the internet. If you have posted an image on the internet, it will stay on the internet. It has been shared everywhere already on social media, forums, and some media outlets.
No word yet if the DMCA subpoena application has been passed.
The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom launches on Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.
