In a major announcement today, Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially revealed the PS5 Pro. This mid-generation refresh, designed to cater to the demands of both gamers and developers, aims to redefine the gaming experience with enhanced graphics and smoother gameplay.

At the heart of the PS5 Pro are several key performance enhancements. Advanced ray tracing technology, capable of casting rays at double or triple the speed of the current PS5, promises more dynamic and realistic lighting effects. The introduction of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling technology, will further enhance image clarity and detail.

The PS5 Pro extends its enhancements to a vast library of games. The PS5 Pro Game Boost feature can stabilize or improve the performance of over 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games. Additionally, select PS4 games will benefit from Enhanced Image Quality, improving their resolution. The new console also supports the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in supported territories, and offers VRR and 8K gaming capabilities.

Several blockbuster titles from both PlayStation Studios and third-party partners are set to receive free software updates to leverage the PS5 Pro’s capabilities. Gamers can look forward to enhanced experiences in games like Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

The PS5 Pro will be available this holiday season starting at USD $699.99. It will come equipped with a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a pre-installed copy of Astro’s Playroom. The console will be offered as a disc-less version, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately. Pre-orders will begin on September 26, 2024, with the official launch on November 7, 2024.
