PS5 System Software Update Out Now Globally

Discord voice chat is here finally!

Sony Interactive Entertainment has now released the new PS5 System Software update worldwide and it introduces a lot of new features to enjoy.

The latest PS5 system software update is rolling out today and it introduces several fan-requested features including the Discord voice chat and the Variable Refresh Rate support for 1440p resolution. The update also adds various UX, accessibility and social feature enhancements.

With the Discord Voice Chat, PS5 players can now join Discord voice chats on the console and easily chat with friends on most other gaming platforms. Just link both Discord and PSN account from the PS5 console, PlayStation website, or the Discord app on Windows or mobile device and follow the steps. Then use the Discord app on the mobile device or computer to get a Discord voice chat going on the PS5 console.

Players can now start or request a share screen from a Friend’s profile. Just select the Share Screen icon on the profile to start a new session.

New Join Game Icon in Party Chats is now visible. Players can now join the game directly by selecting the player and then selecting Join Game from the menu.

The New Friends Who Play tile has been added. It will show friends that have the game, who is currently online, and who are currently playing the game.

Players can now manually upload game captures to the PlayStation App.

The Variable Refresh Rate support for 1440p is now available. It will now offer smoother visual performance when using a VRR-compatible HDMI 2.1 display at 1440p resolution. The parameters of the PS5 console’s 1440p output test are now updated which enables 1440p support for a wider range of HDMI displays.

The game library has been enhanced with a new sort and filter games feature when adding games to a gamelist. Filters can now be used to easily find PS VR, and PS VR2 games when the PS VR2 launches later this month.

Players can now set preferences to manage who can join and who can invite other players to multiplayer sessions that got made for supported games.

It is now easier to access PS4 saved date on the PS5 console via two ways:

  • When you download or install a PS4 game on your PS5 console, a notification that PS4 saved data is available in your PlayStation Network cloud storage will appear (if your PS5 console doesn’t already have saved data for the game). Simply select the notification to download your saved data.
  • When you download or install a PS5 game that can load PS4 saved data, such as the PS5 version of a game that was also released on PS4, the same notification will appear (if the game supports this feature).

Transferring data from one PS5 to another is now easier which includes games, saved date, user profiles, settings, screenshots, and videos. Players can either transfer the date during the initial PS5 console setup or later from the settings menu.

The screen reader has more detailed guidance with the new update when navigating the console. It can now tell players which direction they can move from the currently selected component as well as their current position in a component with multiple items.

The DualSense wireless controller device software can now be updated with a wireless connection. If using a wireless connection is problematic, then use a USB cable instead.
