Star Wars Jedi Survivor Timeline Explained – When does the Game take place

With so many tie-ins to its lore, it can be hard to keep track of what happens when such as when Star Wars Jedi Survivor timeline takes place in the chronology. We know that it takes place during the height of the Galactic Empire but when exactly is a bit of a mystery. Depending on when we can place it, we may see some familiar Star Wars characters from the main numbered installments.

When does Star Wars Jedi Survivor take place?

The Star Wars Jedi Survivor timeline takes place in the year 9 BBY, which is the same year that the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV Series is set in. This makes it at least 10 years after the activation of Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith.

In the story trailer for Jedi Survivor, Cal mentions that it’s been five years since the events of The Fallen Order. We know that the Fallen Order takes place in 14 BBY, 5 years after the Revenge of the Sith, in which Cal has gone into hiding from the Empire. Five years have passed again in the timeline of Jedi Survivor.

Interestingly enough, Respawn Entertainment takes full advantage of this setting. Ten years is still too young for The Separatists Crisis to be a forgotten memory. We see Cal taking on Separatist droids that have been repurposed by raiders to serve their interests. It’s a neat little callback to the prequel lore.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor Timeline Conclusion

Back in the Fallen Order, the Galactic Empire was relatively new. Now Cal and the rest of the Mantis crew have to escape the height of the Empire’s control, which has only grown stronger in the past 10 years. Unfortunately, the Chosen One is still a child and won’t be ready to fight the Empire for another nine years.

A lot has changed between The Fallen Order and Survivor. Cal is more mature, has finally developed facial hair, and has a stronger relationship with the rest of the Mantis crew. We’re not sure if he’ll meet some familiar faces that were around during 9 BBY, but we did get to try out Jedi Survivor in a hands-on preview. You can read our Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Hands-On Preview for our impressions.

The goal of Cal Kestis is simply to survive the Empire’s Jedi purge alongside his old allies and new friends. Thankfully, Vader might be too busy with Obi-Wan during this time to pursue the Mantis crew. Though this time, Cal is clearly more prepared, as the five-year time skip has let him hone his skills enough to use five distinct lightsaber fighting styles. This should explain when the Star Wars Jedi Survivor timeline took place. We hope you learned a bit more from our insight into this game’s place in the franchise’s chronology.
