The Family House is one of the levels in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. This is the home of the notorious chain saw wielding Leatherface and his family of psychotic cannibals and it’s where they keep their victims. Read ahead as we talk more about the Family House and the ways to escape the place in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
To escape the Family House in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, you will have to go through its three levels while performing certain tasks which involves opening the several exit points that surround the house.
Basement Level
As you start a round, you will be captured inside one of the cells inside the basement. Free yourself from your chains, but pay attention to the noise meter; the more you try to move, the higher the noise meter goes up until it reaches max. Once the noise meter turns red, it will help the hunters figure out which cell you will be coming out of, plus it will also awaken Grandpa which can serve as the radar for the hunters, so try to make as little noise as possible to buy some time.
Once you’re free, you will notice that all the five exit doors for the basement are highlighted for 30 seconds. The doors will always be in the same place, but it’s best to use this time to orient yourself and learn what paths to take.
Your next objective is to find a lockpick which are usually on tool boxes in the different rooms in the basement. Same as the chains, you will make noises as you try to get a lockpick. You can take two tools at max.
Aside from the obvious doorways, there are also cracks on the wall and crawlspaces where you can pass through. Use these alternate paths to shake off any hunters as most hunters can’t fit through them. You will know if a hunter has spotted you if you start seeing your border turn yellow, and it will turn redder the closer they get to you.
The five exit doors in the basement can be found in these areas:
- Leatherface Lair
- Side Garden Tunnel
- Basement Storage
- Blood Bathroom
- Rear Basement
Taking any of these exits will allow you to reach the ground level of the house.
Family House / Ground Level
Once you get to the ground level, you are much closer to most of the exit points than before, but most of them are still locked or armed with electric fences. Just like in the basement, the rooms either have cracks or crawlspaces that you can slip through.
While inside the house, you will have to look for certain items that you will need for your exit which will depend on which exit you need to take. You will have to find either fuses if you want to take the basement exit, or valve handles if you want to take the valve gate exits. You can also find Grandpa in rooms such as the Dining or the Living room, so try too seek him out if you need to lower his level.
Upstairs are where some of the family members’ room can be located. This is where the fuseboxes will spawn, as well as some of the escape items. There are two stairs that lead to the upper floor to give you an alternative way to shake off hunters.
You can also head to the Exterior where you can find most of the exits that you can take. Be careful as it is bright outside and you can easily be spotted from inside the house. There are five wells scattered outdoors and climbing into one will send you back down into the basement level.
Family House Fusebox Tunnel Basement / Fuse Exit
The Fusebox Tunnel is one of the exits and it is found in the Basement. To do this exit, you will need to find a fuse in one of the rooms in the ground floor of the house, then you will need to carry it to the fuse box which will spawn in one of the room upstairs, You will need a tool to pry the fuse box open, and once it is open and you place the fuse, you will need to solve a puzzle and make sure that the amp values match.
There are usually two locations where the fuses can be found, and one location where the fuse box will appear.
These are the locations where the fuses can be found:
- Dining Room
- Bone Room
- Living Room
- Sitting Room
These are the locations where the fuse boxes can be found:
- Hitchhiker’s Bedroom
- Upper Storage
- Luggage
Family House Pressure Valve / Valve Exit
The Pressure Valve is an exit located in the Exterior area. The gate leading to this exit is pressure-controlled, so you will need to overload one of the pressure valves connected to this gate to open it. You can look for pipes inside the house where you would usually see a valve handle. Use a tool to pry the handle off, then go to a valve pump, place the handle on it, and then turn the handle. You can then head to the gate to exit the map.
These are the locations where the valve handles can be found:
- Back Porch
- Luggage
These are the locations where the valve pumps can be found:
- Driveway
- Back Garden
Family House Driveway / Cattle Grid Exit
The Cattle Grid is one of the exits located in the Exterior area. Hunters will usually set up the generators that will power up the electrified ground pipes at the end of the Driveway. Your task is to locate these generators and break them down, then go to the end of the Driveway to exit the map.
These are the locations where the generators can be found:
- Barn
- Front Field
Family House Car Graveyard / Cattle Grid Exit
The Electrified Gate is one of the exits located in the Car Graveyard area. You will need to head to the Back Porch, then make your way into the Car Graveyard. After that, look for the car that is hooked up to the gate and turn off the battery to cut the power on the gate. Finally, use a tool to pick the gate open and exit the map.
The Family House Trophy and Achievements
There are two trophies/achievements that can be obtained in The Family House Level:
- Be like Sally – Escape down the driveway after jumping out of the family house front window.
- Leaving Home – Escape using each exit on the Family House level.
