Tears of the Kingdom isn’t the first Legend of Zelda game where Link can find Great Fairy Fountain locations in order to upgrade his armor and acquire bonuses. There are four Great Fairy Fountains in this game, and they can be hidden pretty well if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Even when you find the Great Fairy Fountains, there’s a particular way to get all the Great Fairies to come out and talk to you.
Use this guide to learn where to find all the Great Fairy Fountain locations and how to unlock them, as we’ll be going over each one.
All Great Fairy Fountain Locations in Tears of the Kingdom
Great Fairy Fountains can be found near the Woodland, Dueling Peaks, Snowfield, and Outskirt Stables. You can fast travel to these locations and look for purple smoke by the distance near of them and head to that direction and you’ll find a Great Fairy Fountain.
You can encounter the Great Fairy Fountains pretty early in the game with little restriction, so long as you trigger the side quests that start them. The fact that they can be found near the stables in Tears of the Kingdom makes it pretty convenient. But before you can look for all of the Great Fairy Fountain locations, you first need to find the first one by going to the Woodland stable and speaking to the traveling musical troupe stationed there.
After unlocking the first of the Great Fairies, you can now look for the remaining three. However, getting each Great Fairy to come out of hiding requires that you play a specific kind of music that’s to their liking. This means looking for musicians who can play that music in order to unlock the great fairy fountains.
How to Unlock the Great Fairy Fountain Near Woodland Stable
The first Great Fairy Fountain can be found by talking to the musical troupe in the Woodland stable (1058, 1130, 0022) and doing a quest for them. You first need to be a reporter by speaking with NPCs at the Lucky Clover Gazette (-3253, 1770, 0119) before you can start this quest. You’ll meet the first Great Fairy at the end of it once you’ve taken the troupe to the hillside.
What you need to do here is pretty easy; just use the Ultrahand ability to fix the wheels of their cart, Breezer. Now you’re going to need at least 3 Pony Points and then get the Towing Harness. Speak with the front desk of that stable, and then customize a registered horse with the Towing Harness. Once you’re done, use your horse to tow the Breezer by using glue to stick the cart to the harness.
Now all you need to do is take the troupe, the Stable Trotters, to the hillside, where you’ll meet the first Great Fairy. This will give you the ability to upgrade your armor for a few rupees and ingredients, which will depend on the armor piece. From this point on, the other Great Fairy Fountain locations have been marked on your map.
How to Unlock the Great Fairy Mija North of Snowfield Stable
This Great Fairy can be found north of the Snowfield stable (-1644, 2566, 0234). You can bring her out by using the sound of a horn, which can be found by a musician nearby.
To unlock Mija, you’ll have to lift up the musician from the hole he’s trapped in (-3661, 0763, 0118) west of the Tabantha Great Bridge. Once you’ve lifted his wagon out, he’ll join the troupe. Now all you have to do is go back to the Snowfield, give the Breezer a roof at Mastro’s request, and then offer to take him to where the Great Fairy is. Just follow his directions, and you should arrive there and unlock this fairy as well as get 100 rupees for your trouble.
How to Unlock the Great Fairy Kaysa West of Outskirt Stable
To the west of the Outskirt Stable (-1436, -1266, 0032) is where you’ll find the Great Fairy, Kaysa. At the stable, go talk to Mastro and start the Serenade to Kaysa quest, where you’ll be asked to look for the musician, Pyper, who can play the flute Kaysa really likes.
Pyper can be found nearby the Highland Stable (0520, -3443, 0047), southeast of the Bridge of Hylia. Once you find him, climb the tree he’s on and speak with him. Pyper will ask you to find 10 sunset fireflies, which can only be found at night. Go to the forest north of the Highland Stable when the sun is down, and you can pick up the Sunset Fireflies there. After collecting ten, go back to Pyper, and he’ll ask you to bring his friend, Haite, from the stable to his location. Go back to the stable and invite her to come with you. After bringing Haite to Pyper, you’ll be treated to a cutscene before the flute player agrees to come back to the Stable Trotters.
Now go back to the Outskirt Stable and talk to Mastro. He’ll tell you that the Breezer is broken down and there are some boulders blocking the path to the Great Fairy Fountain. Look for a giant rock slab with three wheels attached to it. You’ll have to piece together the wheel, control lever, and then the Breezer before speaking with Maestro. Afterwards, you can now take the musical troupe to the Great Fairy Kaysa north of the Outskirt Stable and get 100 rupees.
How to Unlock the Great Fairy Cotera Near The Dueling Peaks Stable
You’ll first have to go to the Dueling Peaks Stable (1750, -1921, 0010) to find the Great Fairy Cotera. Talk to Mastro and start the Serenade to Cotera quest. You’ll be asked to find the drummer of the Stable Trotters, Beetz, who’s gone missing.
Go to Kakariko Village (2166, -1381, 0108) to find Beetz. You’ll need 3 Courser Bee Honeys to get Beetz to rejoin the troupe. Speak with him and give him the Courser Bee Honeys then head back to the Dueling Peaks Stable.
Once at the Dueling Peaks Stable, speak with Mastro and you’ll be asked to work on the Breezer one last final time. You’ll need to build a makeshift boat using the materials nearby the river. After you’re done fixing the Breezer, take the troupe to the Great Fairy Cotera and you’ll unlock her after a brief cutscene and get 100 Rupees for your troubles.
