In order to pass the CERO standards in Japan, upcoming video game Resident Evil Village will be censored heavily.
Japan has some serious censorship rules when it comes to games and certain mediums, which is why some games are heavily censored that sometimes blood is colored green. In RE Village, it will be the same with different ways of censorship. Even thought the developer assures that there is no difference in game content from the overseas version, it definitely has big differences for the big fans of the franchise.
The Japanese version will not have decapitations and it will have less blood compared to the North American and European releases.
The changes were made to comply the CERO D version, which is intended for players 17 and older. This will contain lesser graphic depictions of violence, while CERO Z version will be for adults-only. The no decapitations rule will apply for both versions though. The two will also feature less blood.
There are also scenes that will not be included in the game, which are prohibited by CERO.
This is common in Japan and nothing surprising to them. The western side of the world, however, will be shocked of this censorship. Nothing we can do about it, it is their law.
Resident Evil Village will launch on May 7 for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
