Sony continues to invest in Media Molecule

We all know the success of Media Molecule’s first game on the PS3, LittleBigPlanet. As years went by since the game’s launch in 2008, the creative aspect encourages a lot of players to make unique designs. That didn’t stop Media Molecule from creating something truly unique, a game where you can develop a game, produce a short film (or even full-length one!), or a music video, it’s all up to you.

A short film created on Dreams.

Dreams garnered a lot of creative minds and they have made spectacular pieces of art. That’s what makes Media Molecule’s latest game, creator studio, whatever you want to call it, a success.

However, that didn’t stop fans from thinking Sony might stop funding the studio. Dreams was a hit, but it didn’t get more new players to join in its Dreamiverse. In a recent interview with Kotaku, Media Molecule’s studio director, Siobhan Reddy stated that they’re hiring more developers and programmers as they are ramping up and the studio is growing.

“One of the big things we did in the last half of last year was we made Abbie the live product lead for Dreams,” Reddy told Kotaku. “We’re on a big recruitment drive right now because to make the progress we want, we need programmers, and we need designers. What really excites me about all of this is Sony is really behind what we’re doing and are investing in the studio to grow.”

Reddy confirms that Sony is still investing in Media Molecule and that the game would not be left to thrive by itself.

Abbie Heppe also said in the interview that they’ve spent so much time improving the overall experience, making it easier for players to find what they’re looking for. “Since December, we’ve been making a really big push to make the front page of Dreams really connect people to the content they’re going to want to play and to surface the best stuff. There’s really no shortage of great things,” says Heppe.

Dreams is currently available on PS4, and can be played on PS5 through its backwards compatibility feature, though there aren’t any PS5-specific upgrades yet.
