Battlefield Cannot Keep Up with Call of Duty According to Sony

Sony Interactive Entertainment has recently shared a statement in regard to Call of Duty’s superiority against the Battlefield series.

Media outlet PC Gamer reported that SIE had recently discussed some details in its arguments against Xbox’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The game company has now included the Battlefield franchise in those arguments and has bravely stated that it could not keep up with the Call of Duty franchise.

SIE has revealed to the UK government’s investigation into the merger that Call of Duty is very successful and other shooters pale in comparison. The other shooter game that they made comparisons to is its biggest rival, Battlefield.

SIE said that Call of Duty is “not replicable.” Other rivals could not catch up even Battlefield cannot do so. They also said that the franchise’s titles that get launched almost every year are always top-selling in the last decade. It is overwhelmingly the top-selling game.

Here are the rest of Sony’s statement:

“Other publishers do not have the resources or expertise to match its success,” Sony continued. “To give a concrete example, Electronic Arts – one of the largest third-party developers after Activision – has tried for many years to produce a rival to Call of Duty with its Battlefield series.

“Despite the similarities between Call of Duty and Battlefield – and despite EA’s track record in developing other successful AAA franchises (such as FIFA, Mass Effect, Need for Speed, and Star Wars: Battlefront) – the Battlefield franchise cannot keep up. As of August 2021, more than 400 million Call of Duty games has been sold, while Battlefield has sold just 88.7 million copies.”
