Monkey D. Luffy
As the main man in charge, Luffy is the iconic face of the show. He’s the party leader of the Straw Hat Pirates whose consumption of the Devil Fruit has given him powers that allow him to stretch his body far above any normal human. This does come at a cost of losing his ability to swim like anyone who consumes the Devil Fruit.
Luffy seeks to become the Pirate King by finding the titular treasure of One Piece. Having created the Straw Hat Pirates at such a young age, he sets out around the world battling powerful World Government, the Seven Warlords of the Sea, and the Four Emperors. While Luffy doesn’t always win, this makes him a figure that threatens the balance of the world.
Sanji
Known for his chain-smoking and poor attempts at womanizing, Sanji is the designated chef of the Straw Hat Pirates. The reason why he always keeps his hands in his pockets is because he believes them to be too valuable to risk in open combat. This results in Sanji primarily fighting with kicks using the Black Leg Style of fighting.
Despite being the butt of many jokes, Sanji is terrifyingly competent in staying hidden and fighting his way out of trouble when need be. This makes him a boon to Luffy as Sanji journeys with the Straw Hats to find the All Blue, a legendary patch of sea said to contain all the species of fish in the world.
Usopp
You might not want to be skeptical anything that comes out of the mouth of Usopp. This boastful young man has a habit of telling tall tales when he’s not busy being the team’s sharpshooter. Despite his self esteem issues, Usopp is a very deadly sniper with his mere slingshot.
While Usopp is considered to be the weakest member of the Straw Hats physically, he does have an admirable dream of bettering himself. Usopp is a very dependable member of the crew who Luffy trusts to cover his back.
Nami
While they didn’t originally get along, Nami eventually found her home as the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates. Nami does excel as a thief and that lends way to some pretty sly tactics when it comes to coercing her crewmates to doing something she wants. Her Clima-Tact weapon allows her to manipulate weather conditions on a smaller scale although it wasn’t enough to stop the Straw Hats from being shipwrecked this time around.
Even as a pirate, Nami prioritizes adventure over actual piracy. She’s often in charge of ensuring that the Straw Hats are always supplied when going out on adventures.
Nico Robin
While she wasn’t always an ally of the Straw Hats, Nico Robin now travels with Luffy’s crew as their archeologist. She’s also no slouch in fighting, with her Devil Fruit consumption allowing her to replicate her limbs any surface. Despite some suspicions from the crew, Nico quickly finds her place with the Straw Hats.
Robin wishes to find the Void Century and learn about what the World Government has censored from these stone cubes called Poneglyphs. Simply learning any Poneglyphs is already considered a capital crime and only a few people around the world can even understand the language.
Roronoa Zoro
As the first mate of the Straw Hat Pirates, Roronoa Zoro is second in command of Luffy’s crew. This deadly swordsman is known for fighting with three swords at the same time. Despite his demonic fighting spirit, Zoro is often found drinking and sleeping on his spare time.
Much like Luffy, Zoro wishes to become the very best. More specifically, he wishes to be the strongest in the world. As one of the Eleven Supernovas, Zoro is on the right track to achieving his dream.
Tony Tony Chopper
Was once a reindeer, Tony Tony Chopper was made sentient after eating Human Human Fruit. He exiled shortly afterwards where he eventually met Dr. Hiriluk who gave Chopper his passion for medicine. After some initial distrust, he eventually becomes a part of Luffy’s crew after growing curious about the world.
Don’t be fooled by his appearance, Chopper is very strong when he transforms into his most human like form. Be default, he’s stuck as a hybrid between man and reindeer. Chopper is able to change shape thanks to developing Rumble Ball which can eventually turn him into a huge monster.
Brook
Otherwise known as the Soul King, Brook is the musician of the Straw Hats. He once ate a Devil Fruit that allowed him to come back to life after death. Unfortunately, his soul got lost for a year before coming back to his now decayed corpse.
Brook now spends his days as a perverted skeleton often asking for Nami and Robin’s underwear much to their annoyance. Deep down, Brook wishes to only reunite with Laboon, a whale the Straw Hats have previously met prior to him. Don’t be fooled by his comical demeanor, Brook is an excellent fencer who can also use his music to hypnotize others.
Franky
Like some of the crew, Franky wasn’t initially the best of terms with the Straw Hats. Franky and his family did mug Usopp and stole most of the crew’s money. After a series of events however, they quickly became fast friends and welcomed Franky as a member of the Straw Hats.
Franky does have some connection to Robin, as he owns the blueprints for the superweapon, Pluton. Despite this, Franky wishes to build and sail the seas with the greatest ship known to man.
