Nintendo executive Shigeru Miyamoto has now posted a video online to share the exact details of the Mario Ambassador role.
Miyamoto recently posted a video message that thanked the former voice of Mario, Charles Martinet. Previously, it was revealed that Martinet has now stepped down from recording character voices for Mario games. He will now take on the role of the Mario Ambassador, but he is not sure what his role is all about. This new video message finally explains things.
Miyamoto started by recalling when Martinet made his debut as the voice actor of Mario in 1996’s seminal 3D platformer, Super Mario 64. He remembered Martinet actually calling him “papa!”, He also remembers the many trips they had promoting Mario and Nintendo across the globe.
The development legend was “deeply grateful” for Martinet’s work bringing many Nintendo characters to life for nearly 30 years. “Charles-san, thank you very much,” Miyamoto said.
Martinet then explained that his ambassador role will entail “travelling around the world, sharing the joy of the Mario family, and being able to continue meeting with all of you wonderful fans, who I cherish absolutely the most”.
“I’m very much looking forward to seeing all of you at events around the world in the years to come,” he said.
Miyamoto added, “You have traveled the world visiting events, joyfully performing the voice of Mario for fans, and putting smiles on people’s faces.
“You always place a priority on spreading joy, and I am sure that you will be a great Mario Ambassador.”
