Nintendo to Continue Support for Switch Next Year

Nintendo’s president has confirmed that the company will continue its support for the Nintendo Switch in the next fiscal year.

In an interview with Nikkei, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa was asked if the lifecycle of the Nintendo Switch could be expanded further than its current state, which is already six and a half years. He replied that the company will continue to focus on the handheld console until the end of the current fiscal year which will end in March 2024. It will continue to support it with software in the next fiscal year ending March 2025.

“We are still working on software for the Switch for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025,” Furukawa said.

“In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, we hope to sustain the momentum of Zelda and the [Super Mario Bros] movie, with focus on the holiday sales season. As for hardware, we will maximize not only new demand for the hardware, but also for those buying second consoles and replacements.”

There are still upcoming titles coming to the Nintendo Switch console so it is still going for a few more years, but with rumors of the Nintendo Switch 2 already rampant, it is possible that the Nintendo Switch will be retiring sometime in 2025.
