The Elite Four Trials are the challenges that players have to go through when challenging the Elite Four in The Indigo Disk DLC of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. These trials will test the players’ skills, not just in battles, but also in knowledge and skills. Read ahead as we share all of the trials of each of the Elite Four members and share tips on how to complete them in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

    On this Guide:

    • How to access the Elite Four Trials
    • Crispin’s Elite Four Trial
    • Amarys’ Elite Four Trial
    • Lacey’s Elite Four Trial
    • Drayton’s Elite Four Trial

How to access the Elite Four Trials

The Elite Four Trials are part of the late game activity for The Indigo Disk expansion, so you will need to progress through the main story of the expansion until you reach the Blueberry League where you will first meet Drayton. Complete the events that follow, until you are allowed to join the Blueberry League by Kieran.

You can then head to the receptionist at the Blueberry Academy to join the Blueberry League. At this point, you can challenge the Elite Four members in their respective biomes in any order. Before challenging them, you must first pay 50 BP as a challenge fee (except for when challenging Drayton) and pass their trials. Each Elite Four member will have trials unique to their own.

After defeating all four Elite Four members, Kieran will then invite you to challenge him for the Champion title.

    Crispin’s Elite Four Trial

Crispin can be found in the Savanna Plaza and is ranked #5 within the Elite Four. For his trial, he will challenge you to make a super-spicy sandwich, but you cannot use your own ingredients for it. Instead, you will have to gather the ingredients by challenging the other trainers in the plaza or trading with them.

Start off by heading to the Savanna Plaza and paying the 50 BP challenge fee at the receptionist. Then, talk to Crispin where he will tell you the conditions of his trial. In order to create the super-spicy sandwich that he wants, you will need to get the following ingredients:

    • Onion
    • Chili Sauce
    • Chorizo
    • Mustard
    • Jalapeno

This is the order of students that you need to trade with/challenge and their Pokémon team (if any) to obtain the ingredients for the sandwich:

    1. Julienne saying Potato Salad (Camerupt, Eelektross)
      • Receive Potato Salad
    2. Student asking for something (Trade)
      • Trade Potato Salad
      • Receive Onion, Cucumber, Prosciutto
    3. Student saying Chili Sauce (Trade)
      • Trade Cucumber
      • Choose Chili Sauce
    4. Carmela saying Mayonnaise (Pyroar, Pyroar)
      • Receive Mayonnaise
    5. Student offering ingredients (Quiz)
      • Answer Mayonnaise
      • Receive Egg, Olive Oil, Vinegar
    6. Student saying chorizons (Trade)
      • Trade Egg
      • Receive Chorizo
    7. Student saying Mustard (Trade)
      • Trade Vinegar
      • Choose Mustard
    8. Student saying Jalapeno (Trade)
      • Trade Prosciutto, Olive Oil
      • Receive Jalapeno

At this point, you will have all the ingredients needed to complete the sandwich. However, there is another student behind a boulder that is offering another jalapeno if you pay 50 BP or defeat him in a battle (Bellossom, Torkoal, Vileplume, Magmar). Choosing to use this extra ingredient on the sandwich will get you a special cutscene with Crispin.

Talk to Crispin so that you can assemble the sandwich. You will have to make sure that all the ingredients for it will stay on the bread, otherwise you will fail the challenge and start over again.

After completing Crispin’s sandwich challenge, you can then challenge Crispin himself to a Doubles Battle. Crispin’s team is mostly composed of Fire-type Pokémon, so bring your best Water, Ground, or Rock team.

    Crispin’s team is composed of:

    • Talonflame
    • Heat Rotom
    • Camerupt
    • Exeggutor
    • Magmortar
    • Blaziken

Once you have defeated Crispin, you will be rewarded with TM207 Temper Flare. You will also be congratulated by Drayton for your victory.

    Amarys’ Elite Four Trial

Amarys can be found in the Canyon Plaza and is ranked #4 within the Elite Four. For her trial, you will need to complete her Flying Time Trial course which will have you fly with your Koraidon or Miraidon though an aerial course around the Terarium.

Start off by heading to the Canyon Plaza and paying the 50 BP challenge fee at the receptionist. Then talk to Amarys to start the challenge.

In the aerial course, you will need to fly through hoops lined up throughout the Terarium and you much reach the goal within the time limit. Amarys will feed your Pokémon a special herb that will allow it to glide longer than normal. You then have to fly through the loops throughout the course. Each hoop you clear will extend your timer by a few seconds. The course is long, but is not that difficult, especially if you have already spent enough time flying with your Pokémon.

After completing the course and passing the trial, you will be able to challenge Amarys to a battle.

Amarys’ team is mostly composed of Steel-type Pokémon. However, you should take note that you will challenge her in a Doubles Battle and that she will pair up her Steel-types with her other Pokémon that will most likely be resistant or strong against the Steel-type weaknesses, such as Fire, Ground, and Fighting; be aware of Alolan Dugtrio, Empoleon, and Reuniclus who can counter such types.

    Amarys’ team is composed of:

    • Alolan Dugtrio
    • Skarmory
    • Empoleon
    • Reuniclus
    • Scizor
    • Metagross

Once you have defeated Amarys, you will be rewarded with TM225 Hard Press. You will also be congratulated by Drayton for your victory.

    Lacey’s Elite Four Trial

Lacey can be found in the Coastal Plaza and is ranked #3 within the Elite Four. For her trial, Lacey will give you a quiz where you are asked to point at a Pokémon’s body part that corresponds as the correct answer to her questions. You will need to answer her questions correctly in order to pass the trial.

Start off by heading to the Coastal Plaza and paying the 50 BP challenge fee at the receptionist. Then talk to Lacey as she explains the rules of her quiz. She will ask you five questions that are about the anatomy of different Pokémon. You will then have to point at the specific part of the Pokémon to answer. If you fail to answer twice in a single question, you will be put in a battle against a trainer. Winning that battle will allow you to pass the question.

These are the answers to each of the questions:

    • Pikachu question: Point at Pikachu’s cheeks
    • Venonat question: Point at Venonat’s eyes
    • Sinistea question: Point at the Sinistea that has the marking on its underside
    • Minior question: Follow the pink Minior as it moves; choose the rightmost Minior
    • Granbull question: Point at Granbull’s tummy

After passing Lacey’s quiz, you can then challenge Lacey to a battle. Lacey’s team is mostly composed of Fairy-type Pokémon. You can build a Poison-type team for this, but look out for Excadrill who is resistant to Poison, so it’s best to have someone who at least knows a Fire-type move.

    Lacey’s team is composed of:

    • Granbull
    • Whimsicott
    • Slowbro
    • Primarina
    • Alcremie
    • Excadrill

Once you have defeated Amarys, you will be rewarded with TM227 Alluring Voice. You will also be congratulated by Drayton for your victory.

    Drayton’s Elite Four Trial

Drayton can be found in the Polar Plaza and is ranked #2 within the Elite Four. For his trial, you must defeat three trainers first, but the catch is that you can only fight against them using Pokémon that has been caught within the Terarium. Additionally, they must be caught by you and Pokémon caught in Tera Raids even within the Terarium are banned for this trial.

Before heading to the trial, it’s best to go look for Pokémon that will give you an edge against the trainers. For this, it’s recommended to catch Pokémon taht can learn Fighting moves as well as Ground moves since most of the Pokémon that you’re going to face area weak to these types.

Once you have your party set up, head over to the Polar Plaza to start the trial. You won’t need to pay for a challenge fee to take part in Drayton’s trial.

The three trainers that you will fight and their parties are:

    • Craig: Rampardos and Bastiodon
    • Winter: Alolan Sanslash and Dewgong
    • Ray: Zebstrika and Magnezone

Once you have defeated all three trainers, then you will be able to face against Drayton. Drayton’s party is mostly composed of Dragon-type Pokémon, and so it’s best to build a team that has strong Ice and Fairy attacks; using Dragon-types would be risky unless your Pokémon have been hyper trained to have boosted stats.

    Drayton’s team is composed of:

    • Flygon
    • Dragonite
    • Haxorus
    • Kingdra
    • Sceptile
    • Archaludon

After defeating Drayton, you will be rewarded with the TM226 Dragon Cheer. Soon after, Kieran will show up who will then challenge you to a fight against him to see who should hold the title of the Champion of the Elite Four.
