Epic Games Store Earns $680 Million

Despite heavy opposition, Epic Games has earned a whooping $680 million. Much of it has to do with the timed exclusives the company has been strategically utilizing to drive competition away. From Borderlands 3 to Metro Exodus this platform has been pretty successful in reigning in big named titles.

Exclusives have been critical in gaining momentum in the presence of a competitor that began 2019 with more than 90% market share.

    Tim Sweeney, Epic CEO

Further more, Epic has promised to deliver even more “exclusives” this year. After all, the practice has gotten them this far, why not keep going? It is unknown what Epic’s main competitor, Steam, will do to bring back in their crowd. But whatever it is, they’d better do it soon.

Securing exclusives for Epic means we can significantly assist developers with product funding and invest in marketing and awareness knowing that these efforts bring in new customers to our store, rather than just sending more business to the incumbent.

    Tim Sweeney

Because it seems that Epic is going to be taking even more of consumers from them. Even today, more than 108 million PC users use Epic Games Store. For 2019, the platform has offer a total of 79 free games which no doubt sweetened the pot. And Epic plans to continue this tradition as well in order to reign in even more customers to use their store.
