The developers id Software have been making big talk with the upcoming Doom Eternal. For those with the right hardware, you can play the game at jaw-dropping 4k visuals and apparently 1,000 frames-per-second.
Sound hard to believe? Well while most modern games run at 140 fps or 240 fps even on the PC, id Software’s lead engine programmer, Billy Kahn, explained on an interview with IGN that big improvements have been made for Eternal that makes this possible. Kahn then explained that Doom Eternal has “no upper limit” and that he had some locally built hardware that could run the game at 400 fps. All of this is possible thanks to the id Tech 7 engine.
For the sake of comparison, Doom 2016 could run at 250 fps. Which makes this 4 times the improvement for the upcoming game. According to Kahn, Eternal will scale itself depending on the hardware that you have present.
