How to Get the Shotgun in Amnesia The Bunker

Amnesia: The Bunker is the first game in the franchise that gives you weapons, including the very powerful shotgun. When you’re trapped in a military bunker, there are bound to be weapons somewhere, and you’ll find some if you know where to look. Use this guide to learn where to find the shotgun in Amnesia: The Bunker.

Considering that one feature in Amnesia: The Bunker has it randomize its item, tool, and equipment locations, there are multiple ways to find the shotgun. This article will detail the two ways you can find the shotgun.

Where to find the Shotgun in Amnesia: The Bunker

To get the shotgun for the first playthrough, you need to get it from Toussaint, who is in the Roman Tunnels past the Arsenal Storage Area. Toussaint will shoot you with the shotgun, so you need to kill him first before taking it for yourself. The shotgun can be found in the same place as the detonator handle, so you can go for both.

First, you’ll need the cutters before you can get the shotgun in Amnesia: The Bunker. Once you have that, fill up the generator until it has a good deal of gas before heading out. On your way back out of the tunnels, you don’t want to run into the monster. So make sure to also have room in your inventory for the shotgun.

When you’re ready, head into the Arsenal section of the titular bunker and go past the Clerk’s Office into the Storage Area. You’ll have to crouch to make it past the debris.

The Storage Area is flooded, and it’s also chained, so you won’t be able to get in without the cutters. Cut the chains and head into the water. You need to go to the other side of the room to pull a lever, and then head back to the Storage Area entrance. Flip the handle of the machine to the left side of the door you came from, which drains the water in the area and reveals a tunnel at the far end of the room.

Enter the tunnels and follow the path until you reach an area with a lantern. You can save your progress here before heading deeper. To the right of this area is a large hole where you’ll find the Roman Tunnels, which are covered in hard-to-see through fog.

The Roman Tunnels are linear, so just keep following them until you hear someone singing. That’s the soldier, Toussaint, who has the shotgun. Toussaint isn’t too hard to deal with, but since the Roman Tunnels are covered in fog, you’ll have some challenges getting in a couple of good shots before he goes down. You can just throw a grenade his way to finish him off quickly.

Best Ways to kill Toussaint and get the Shotgun

Interestingly enough, the monster doesn’t seem to show here, even with the noise. So using guns and explosives won’t draw it out. Toussaint is the biggest threat, as his shotgun can put you down with two good hits. Even when blind, he’s pretty accurate. You might also waste your ammo because this area has some silhouettes walking around that you might think is Toussaint.

Here’s how to kill Toussaint in the best possible ways and obtain the Shotgun:

    • Prepare your pistol and flashlight, listen for the approaching humming sound, and keep an eye out for silhouettes. Ambush Toussaint and shoot him in the head once you’ve positively identified him. Keep in mind that if you shoot him in the head, he’ll go down with just one bullet; if you shoot him in the body, it’ll take two or three.
    • Make use of grenades. While he’s distracted, take the opportunity to shoot Toussaint down and loot the shotgun.

Once Toussaint has been dealt with, pick up the shotgun next to his corpse. It’s now yours and will be stored in your inventory. Go ahead and pick up the detonator handle too, so you won’t have to come back. It’s in this area that you can also pick up the rabbit toy, which is useful for later.

After finishing the game, the shotgun respawns in a different place on subsequent playthroughs. This time you can find the shotgun in a locker tagged “A. FORTIN” and it has a combination lock. Like other combination locks in Amnesia: The Bunker, this combination lock is randomized. The location of A. FORTIN’s dog tag that contains the codes to his locker is also randomized in the bunker, so keep an eye out.

The shotgun is a powerful weapon that can destroy wooden doors and packs quite a punch, but it comes with some caveats. One, the ammunition, which is Shotgun Shells is very rare, and it’s slow to reload compared to your service revolver. And two, it’s also slower to aim down the sights, which leaves a small window where you’re vulnerable before you even fire a shot.
