Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been known to commemorate holidays, and Thanksgiving, also known as Turkey Day, is one of the most awaited annual events that are celebrated in the game.
From this year and the succeeding years to come, let Franklin the turkey, professional chef extraordinaire, be your guide to Thanksgiving Day festivities. And nope, we’re not cooking Franklin, okay?
Our Turkey Day guide will assist you in gathering the best ingredients and reaping the rewards associated with Animal Crossing’s Turkey Day celebration.
What is Turkey Day?
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Turkey Day, players can expect to find Franklin, and special NPC, in their Resident Services area on American Thanksgiving, with a stovetop in front of him.
Franklin, is the chef Tom Nook had invited to prepare food for the island. In order to put together Franklin’s menu, he needs the help of the player.
On this day the player will be Franklin’s assistant. You have to help him gather the ingredients for an amazing Thanksgiving dinner and in return, he’ll reward you with unique Thanksgiving DIY recipes and pieces of furniture.
As Thanksgiving always falls on the fourth Thursday of November, the date changes. The following are the dates for the next five Thanksgivings:
- 25th of November, 2021
- 24th of November, 2022
- 23rd of November, 2023
- 28th of November, 2024
- 27th of November, 2025
Turkey Day Objectives
A scavenger hunt is the main event on Turkey Day. Franklin is the only person who can help you get started. You’ll be given a list of ingredients and be told where to find them, such as pumpkins, clams, and fish.
Franklin will be available to answer questions about the ingredients needed for the various Thanksgiving-themed recipes he plans to prepare beginning at 9 a.m. on your local (Nintendo Switch) time.
With the New Horizons Update 2.0 for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the devs added a cooking feature for players, as well as the ability to grow tomatoes, wheat, and more, so those ingredients are present.
Turkey Day Secret Ingredients
A secret ingredient can be added to Franklin’s list to complete the recipe. If you don’t know what it is, you’ll have to figure it out on your own, or find them on our list below. Take all the ingredients to Franklin and he’ll whip up the dishes for you.
Franklin’s secret ingredients will also be revealed by the conversation between the villagers, so keep an eye out!

Some of your villagers may be able to assist you if you’re in need of items like mushrooms or pumpkins. You can also travel back in time to grow them yourself. But if you don’t want to travel back in time, you can trade specific fish for the ingredients you need. If you don’t have a lot of vegetables growing on your island, this is an option to consider.

How do you add the secret ingredient to the Turkey Day dishes?
A secret ingredient can be added to a dish after you’ve made it for the first time. Talk to Franklin and he will say “It’s your call, but if you’d like to go above and beyond, bring me any ingredients you think might work”.
As soon as you hand him over the ingredients, Franklin will be able to upgrade this specific dish once it has been prepared with the secret ingredient in your inventory.

Franklin will reward you with the recipes for the four dishes you helped him prepare once you assist him in the cooking process.
