Can you get Pets in Hogwarts Legacy?

There’s a lot of ways to stave of loneliness in the wizarding world so you may be asking if you can get pets in Hogwarts Legacy. Officially students have always been allowed to have cats, owls, and even toads in the academy grounds. But we’re curious to see if we can have pets to accompany us in Hogwarts Legacy.

Can you have Pets in Hogwarts Legacy?

Yes, you can have pets in Hogwarts Legacy but not in the traditional manner. You’re able to capture and groom magical beasts to keep them safe from poachers in the Room of Requirement’s Vivarium. You may even breed them to get more cute creatures.

These are the Magical Beasts you can capture and tame in Hogwarts Legacy:

    • Diricrawl
    • Golden Snidget
    • Hippogriff
    • Kneazle
    • Mooncalf
    • Puffskein
    • Thestral
    • Unicorn

Magical beasts in Hogwarts Legacy can be used as a source of materials for upgrades in the game. If you want to upgrade equipment in the Room of Requirement or you wizard gear, then you can groom the beasts you’ve captured until they give you the materials you’re looking for.

These aren’t the traditional owls, cats, and toads pets in Hogwarts. You can’t quite bring the magical beasts you raise outside of the Vivarium. It’s more akin to raising an animal farm. From unicorns to puffskins, you can groom many magical beasts that you can raise as pets in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to capture Pets in Hogwarts Legacy?

You first need to complete the The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom side quest which teaches you how to use the Nab-Sack to catch magical beasts in Hogwarts Legacy. After finishing this side quest, you can now use the Nab-Sack to capture any magical beast during free roam.

Wild beasts cannot be groomed in any way until you capture them with the Nab-Sack. Once they’re captured, you can let them out in the Vivarium to groom and feed them.

Can you ride Pets in Hogwarts Legacy?

Yes, you can ride pets in Hogwarts Legacy. While you can’t ride just any of the magical beasts you’ve captured, you can ride a hippogriff. Once you progress through the main story, you’ll be introduced to Highwing which you can use as a flying mount after a daring rescue from poachers.

Highwing can be used as an alternative to broomstick flying in Hogwarts Legacy. There isn’t really that much difference except that the hippogriff can run on the ground like a horse would.

Those who pre-ordered Hogwarts Legacy or bought the Deluxe Edition will also get to ride unique mounts earlier in the game.

This Youtube video from DPJ is a useful help for learning how to tame magical beasts in Hogwarts Legacy.
