Captain America Brave New World Review – New World Or New Flop

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has produced many Marvel films. Films like Thor: Love & Thunder, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumnmania, and more. As we Marvel fans enter 2025, we are expecting many great films that will feature some of our favorite heroes and one of them is the latest MCU film, Captain America: Brave New World.

This film takes place after the events in Eternals the movie, and the popular Disney Plus series, Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Played by Anthony Mackie, Sam Wilson is now the new Captain America of the new century. Being blessed by his allies and the American people, he has become an important figure to the public. Joaquin Torress (played by Danny Ramirez) backs up new Cap as his new protege, The Falcon, and his mentor, Isaiah Bradley (played by Carl Lumbly), Cap is ready to take on all new challenges.

After a successful recovery mission, the United States is entering a new age under the leadership of Thaddeus Ross who is now played by Harrison Ford. Elected as President of the US, he vows to bring change despite his dark past of hunting the Hulk for years. But things start to go haywire as Isaiah Bradley and others try to assassinate him. But the attempt is stopped by Sam Wilson.

Isaiah is then arrested but it is discovered that he doesn’t seem to remember what has happened and Sam assumes that he might have been hypnotized into doing this. To clear his name, Cap and Falcon must uncover the secrets of what the President is hiding and learn what other dangers are lurking before a war will emerge.

The plot of the movie was really simple and was a way to forget about everything related to the Multiverse. But there were some details that certain fans could not get. One of which is the treaty that Ross wishes to continue. In the beginning, I felt confused as to what was the purpose of it and it only came to light as soon the film reached the 1st part of the climax.

Another thing that was noticeable about the film is the cast of characters used in the film. Characters like Samuel Stern, Bucky, Ross, and even, Betty Ross make appearances in the film and I can say that they went all out to make sure we remember the characters from the Incredible Hulk movie. Not only that, though the film was not good, the use of the Eternals’ fallen Celestial made its appearance and made an unexpected Easter Egg with the addition of Adamantium. That’s right, the metal Wolverine fans know, one of the strongest metals in the world, maybe a hint that we could expect a new Mutant Saga to enter the MCU.

The performance of Harrison Ford becoming Thaddeus Ross was quite good. His dominance as not only the general who hunted the Hulk but also as President of the US who is trying his best to show everyone he can change and main his status quo was great. When he became the Red Hulk, that part was really surprising and gave me one shocker after another.

Aside from the plot twists, the cast of characters, and all the important key notes to remember, the fight scenes were action-packed. However, it is not on the same level as Captain America and the Winter Soldier. I expected something quite unexpected but instead, they are still using the same formula from other Captain America films, but with less drama and I think they should to try be more creative in surprising fans.

The post-credits were ok but come on, we already know that there is a Multiverse out there. I was hoping for an introduction or other hints of what they are working like introducing Doctor Doom, the Fantastic Four, or even bringing out a sneak peek of the Mutant Sage for the next phase of the MCU. Utterly disappointing but there are hints within the middle of the movie for the next MCU film, the Thunderbolts*, and what role Buck Barnes will have. That kind of made up for that mistake, but still, I feel that the producers could have done better.

Captain America: Brave New World is a so-so movie to start the MCU of 2025 but fails to meet the expectation of what Marvel fans want to see for the next phase of the MCU. Anthony Mackie’s role in the film should have been better as it is a new start for the new Captain America to lead the next generation of MCU heroes. Luckily, the rest of the cast has managed to make up for the mistakes and could play a better role in future films.

    5.0 Average

Captain America: Brave New World is a so-so movie to start the MCU of 2025 but fails to meet the expectation of what Marvel fans want to see for the next phase of the MCU. Though it fails to meet the expectation, it's cast of colorful character make up the movie's mistakes.

    The Good
    1. A new Captain America for a new story
    2. Actors of the film showed their devotion to become comic accurate
    3. good amount of easter eggs that can be found
    The Bad
    1. Post Credit scene was old news
    2. Plot felt too rushed
    3. Didn't manage to level up itself from the previous Captain America films
