From everything we’ve been told about the game before release, Hogwarts Legacy is set well before the Harry Potter series, but the question remains: in what time period does Hogwarts Legacy really take place?
And before else asks, no, the time period the game takes place has nothing to do with Quidditch not being part of the game.
What year is Hogwarts Legacy set in?
Hogwarts Legacy is set sometime in the 1800s, the year 1890, to be exact. Considering that every school year begins the same way no matter the year, we can even go so far as to say that the game’s beginning occurs around the 1st of September.
The game is set nearly a hundred years before Harry Potter started attending Hogwarts in 1991. (As per the books’ storyline. The movies see Harry receiving the invitation the same year the first movie came out, 2001.)
We won’t exactly know how different the world will be as compared to the books and films. But seeing as nothing much has changed over the long span of years between the 1800s to the modern day. Unless we’re talking about a certain restroom hiding the entrance to a certain secret chamber.
Do note that in-door plumbing has been a thing for almost 200 years now. So, don’t go thinking that wizards magicking away their “business” is all that common. Unless some poor soul wants to do it the old way.
Hogsmead, the birthplace of the famous butterbeer, will no doubt have the same cozy thatched roofs and rolling hills as depicted in the films. The same can be said about familiar faces such as Nearly Headless Nick, Peeves, and the Fat Lady.
