The Sun Giant’s Prize is one of the main quests in Nightingale where the goal is to obtain a Pellucidic Etched Ingot as part of building a Portal Stabiliser. This is one of the three quests that are part of the Gateway to The Watch quest from Nellie Bly. Read ahead as we go through the steps on how to complete The Sun Giant’s quest in Nightingale.
How to unlock “The Sun Giant’s Prize” quest
The Sun Giant’s Prize quest becomes available after talking to Nellie Bly and accepting the Gateway to The Watch quest. Nellie Bly can be found at the Desert Herbarium realm, by the portal ruins.
Obtain the Portal Stabiliser Component
Upon talking to Nellie Bly, she will request three components in order to build the Portal Stabiliser, one of which is the Pellucidic Etched Ingot. The Pellucidic Etched Ingot is a drop from hunting down a Sun Giant, although there is a peaceful option that can be taken which involves making an offering in exchange for the component.
With this, there are two ways to go through with this objective: one is to simply kill a Sun Giant to get the component, while the other is to seek Danu’s help in making an offering in exchange for the component.
Hunting down the Sun Giant will be the fastest way to obtain the component, however it cannot be encountered yet until you have unlocked the Hunt Card later on in the game. Also, you will be missing out on additional rewards, plus the hidden achievement that is only available through the peaceful method.
There is an optional quest called Search for a Sun Giant Expert that you can take from Wilhelmina Sasse. This quest will simply reveal Danu’s realm, but you can simply bypass this quest and head to the Swamp Gloom realm where she can be found. Danu will be your guide to learn how to create an offering for the Sun Giant.
Talk to Danu and accept the Blinding Sounds quest line. In this quest line, you will be asked to silence some Fae towers and prepare the Ritual Curio Configuration which will be the offering given to the Sun Giant.
After acquiring the Ritual Curio Configuration, you will unlock the Friend of the Grendels Achievement. You will then have to search for a Sun Giant to give the offering to.
Note: Sun Giants spawn within the open lands of the Desert Hunt realm. Use a Spyglass or the Track Legend enchantment to easily find one within the realm.
Before approaching a Sun Giant, make sure to disarm your companion to prevent them from attacking the giant. The Sun Giant will reach out its hand to you which you can inspect and place the Ritual Curio Configuration on. Afterwards, the Sun Giant will drop the Pellucidic Etched Ingot. Getting the ingot through this method will not prevent you from being able to kill the Sun Giant afterwards and obtaining a duplicate copy of the component.
You will also obtain the following rewards for obtaining the ingot:
- x1 Enchantment (Assassin’s Sight)
- x1 Charm (Charm of the Terrifier)
- x1 Tempest Eminent Card
- x2 Ingenuity Infusion (Stamina Regeneration)
- x3 Ore (Pursuit)
- x6 Gem Powder (Pearl)
Finally, bring the Pellucidic Etched Ingot over to Nellie Bly to complete the quest. The component can also be turned in along with the other two components to lessen the trips to Nellie.
