Resident Evil 7, 8 and 9 Rumored Part of Big Trilogy

A new rumor suggests that the three Resident Evil titles from 7 to 9 are part of a big trilogy and there will be a big change for the series after the next one.

According to popular game industry insider Dusk Golem on his personal Twitter account, RE7, 8, and 9 is part of a trilogy. This is partially true since 8 is a direct sequel to 7 with the same protagonist involved. It is also possible that the next one will be directly involved as well depending on how RE Village will end when someone finally completes it after it launches next month.

(1/2) I guess to summarize the last few tweets simply & non-spoilery, know that Village being a direct sequel to RE7 was decided pretty early on, there's some things put in RE7 that will make more sense after RE8. More than any other series of titles in the series history,

Dusk Golem points out that these three titles will be the most interconnected titles in the franchise. Previous titles were sequels, prequels, and other stories were actually somewhat in parallel with each other (RE2 and RE3). These newer titles are also planned to be developed closer to one another, which means they will be released sooner than expected.

Here is a new change for the series though, according to Dusk Golem. He states that after RE9, game publisher CAPCOM will be abandoning the numbered titles. They now want to make more self-contained stories and avoid planning out stories ahead of time. This would be good for making one title with its own story to tell without depending on previous games too much. Maybe it could have references for it, only just a bit of them and not totally depend on everything.

Take this with a grain of salt for now. CAPCOM has not officially confirmed these leaks, but these are quite possible.

Resident Evil Village will launch on May 7 for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It was also reported that this title will have a new difficulty mode after completing the main campaign.
