Game company Atlus has recently released the official demon digest video for upcoming video game Shin Megami Tensei V featuring the Filipino mythical creature Manananggal.
Shin Megami Tensei V Filipino Origins of Manananggal
As revealed two weeks ago, the Filipino mystical creature Manananggal becomes part of the SMT V universe. This is a fearsome creature taking on a form of a beautiful female during the day but becomes this hideous monstrosity during the night. It separates its upper body from its lower half and grows bat-like wings to fly off and hunt for unsuspecting pregnant women to eat their unborn babies with their long tongue.
Shin Megami Tensei V’s version of Manananggal
SMT V’s version is quite unique in design with their own additions to suit the gameplay. According to media outlet Siliconera, the Manananggal is part of the Femme tribe in the game. The video shows the protagonist approaching the creature and then shows her gameplay. Just like what was told in Filipino legends, she can use the Sanguine Drain to leech her enemies’ HP and then heal her own.
The video also shows how the protagonist interacts with the Manananggal. It seems he is offered three options and when he correctly chooses the right one, the creature is amused for some reason. Siliconera says that she is offering him to touch her and also teaches him how to kiss, but that is obviously has a consequence. Like, tearing off the skin off of his face kind of consequence.

The next demon digest video shows a silhouette of the next demon, which is said of the Megami race.
Platform and release date
Shin Megami Tensei V and the Manananggal will be available worldwide on November 12, 2021 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
