It’s the start of a new year, new games come out, and new adventures to experience. 2018 packs an interesting line-up, the games that surely blow us off from our seats. Last year was also great, Sony launched unforgettable memories like the ones in Horizon: Zero Dawn and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Then Microsoft going for an all-out release of the most powerful console the Xbox One X, and Nintendo launching the next big thing, the Nintendo Switch.
I’ve asked around the editorial team to know what they’re excited about this year:
Leif Bornales, Co-Editor-in-Chief:
A Way OutI can’t wait to see how the drop in drop out coop player plays out and see if it actually works. Also, the idea of only buying one game for two people makes this a good deal for a multiplayer game.
David Rix, Contributor:
Donkey Kong Tropical FreezeAlthough the game came out on the Wii U in 2014, it’s getting new life on the Switch and will finally get the attention it deserves. It’s the best 2D platformer in years and outdoes Mario in its creativity. If you own a Switch and missed this game when it came out, you’re getting another chance on May 4th.

Left AliveIt’s the closest thing we’ll most probably get to another Metal Gear Solid. Mechs and war, a serious genre for a serious game. I’ve always been a sci-fi guy.
May Alturas, Contributor:
Overkill’s The Walking DeadI have been a follower ever since The Walking Dead came out. Yes, there are Telltale Games out there but finally a game adaptation. It’s about time! Graphics looks extremely awesome and the trailer looks really promising.
Raff Abenoja, Contributor:
Kingdom Hearts 3. It’s been more than a decade already. Stop it with the spinoffs, Square Enix! Bayonetta + Bayonetta 2. Double(/third) dipping on this because Bayo is ultimate bae ❤. Also, kicking demonic-looking angel butts on the go should be fun.
Jonathan Quirino, Contributor:
Dark Souls RemasteredPrepare To Die again. Never been excited to die again and again and again. This is a test of skill, the original Dark Souls was the hardest of the series for me, also having it on Nintendo Switch is a dream come true. I just hope I won’t throw my Nintendo Switch away when I rage.
John Fernandez, Contributor:
Ace Combat 7: Skies UnknownIt’s an Ace Combat game, I love an Ace Combat game. Where can you get a flight combat game that feels right, plays right, sounds right and the story is right. I want to shoot other jets down but I can’t bother with a simulation. There are alternatives, but when was the last good AAA casual flight combat game? None right.

Red Dead Redemption 2It’s A Rockstar Game!
If you’re curious about what I’m excited for this year, there’s a lot to mention, actually. Spider-Man is coming, and it’s developed by the studio who made Ratchet & Clank and the Resistance franchise. Insomniac Games’ never failed to impress me with their narrative approach and gameplay. Then we have Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima’s next big title. The long trailer that was shown at The Game Awards 2017 was quite intriguing, well, confusing mostly, but still! It came from the unorthodox and incredible mind of Kojima-san.
And probably, Shadow of the Colossus next month and Days Gone later this year. I can’t explain how excited I am about the remake of Team Ico’s Shadow of the Colossus. It looks beautiful, reliving the memorable experience of one of the best PS2 games on the PS4 is going to be worth it (I just bought the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus PS3 collection yesterday!). As for Bend Studios’ Days Gone, even if I wanted to have a Syphon Filter reboot, I just hope it doesn’t fall into the cliche post-apocalyptic zombie direction.
What are you excited for this year?
