Starfield Mantis Puzzle: How to Solve

The Starfield Mantis Puzzle requires you to carefully move on certain floor tiles in order to avoid triggering a deadly trap. This can be encountered in the Lair of Mantis quest and if you do it wrong, you’ll trigger turrets that will rip you apart. Here’s a guide that shows you how to solve the Mantis Puzzle in Starfield.

How to Solve the Mantis Puzzle in Starfield?

Walk on the floor tiles in the correct order to spell out T Y R R A N I S until you make it to the other end safely. There are plates on the hallway where the Mantis Puzzle is that you have to walk on to spell the correct word.

The clue to spell out Tyrranis using the floor can be found on one of the audio logs (dropped by enemies) in the secret base. It’s recorded by Leo, who talks about his mother repeating the phrase “Sic semper tyrranis” over and over again. It’s a pretty easy clue to miss, so you may not figure out that’s what the game wants you to input in the Mantis Puzzle.

You’ll notice that there are dead bodies on the floor around the hallway. Stepping on the wrong tile will lead to the turrets activating and firing at you. They’re not an instant kill, but they can be tough to deal with.

Solving the Mantis puzzle is the final part of the Lair of Mantis quest. Once you’ve made it to the end of the hallway, all you have to do is open the door. You can claim the Razorleaf Spaceship in the large cave in the next room over by activating the lift controls. The Mantis Spacesuit is also just in the storage area nearby.

    Lair of Mantis Rewards

Here’s what you get upon completing the Lair of Mantis:

    • Razorleaf (Legendary Ship)
    • Mantis Spacesuit (Legendary)
    • x2000 Credits
    • x200 XP

The Razorleaf is a legendary ship that is valued at over 120,000 credits. It has a Shielded Cargo Hold for smuggling contraband and it’s also faster than most early level ships. You still have to pay a few credits at any space landing port to register it to your name before you can customize it.

The Mantis Spacesuit is also better than most of the early game suits. It can be pretty heavy to wear but it comes with strong damage protection and even comes with certain traits that make it worth grabbing.
