The Outlast Trials Multiplayer Coop: How Many Players Can Play?

One of the biggest changes introduced by The Outlast Trials is its multiplayer coop feature, which is a first for the series. Previous Outlast games focused solely on single player experience, but now we get to take part in cooperative play. But just how exactly does The Outlast Trials multiplayer coop work? And how many players can you play with in a game?

How Many Players Can Play together in The Outlast Trials Multiplayer Coop?

The Outlast Trials can be played by yourself or in a team of up to four players in cooperative multiplayer. You have to work together to survive and get out alive as you’re hunted down by deranged murderers.

This is where The Outlast Trials is different from the previous games. Instead of following a narrow path to complete the story, you’ll instead have to work together with either 2, 3, or 4 other players to complete objectives on a map while staying clear of monsters. There’s more of an episodic format that allows for coop multiplayer to ease into the story.

The Outlast Trials assure that coop multiplayer isn’t being forced and that mandatory objectives can be completed alone. But it’s much more beneficial to work together with other players, which you can do in either the story-driven trials or the shorter MK-Challenges.

Although cross-platform play isn’t available in early access, the presence of coop multiplayer in a game like The Outlast Trials can raise some eyebrows. Especially since veterans of the game are used to playing alone. Being able to play with up to four players changes the dynamic of how you handle each encounter. While none of you can fight back properly, each player can upgrade their skills to better help their teammates by either healing them, stunning enemies, or spotting threats through walls.

Just because there’s coop in the game doesn’t mean that The Outlast Trials is easier. In fact, having other players when you’re playing can sometimes come back to bite you. Other players can start hallucinating and making false callouts, causing you to doubt your actions. At the same time, the presence of doppelgangers who can impersonate other players will attack you if you let them get too close.

In addition to the multiplayer feature, it would be great to see the game included in Game Pass like the other titles, but there is no confirmation about this at the moment.

That’s how many players you can play with in The Outlast Trials multiplayer coop. Early Access is now available for PC and can be purchased on Steam and Epic Games Store.
