After a flurry of leaks and speculations, World of Warcraft Dragonflight has finally been made public. A high-risk gamble for World of Warcraft, which has seen its player base decrease in recent years due to intense competition from games like Final Fantasy XIV and Lost Ark.
What is World of Warcraft Dragonflight about?
Dragonflight’s theme will be the return of the dragon aspects, who were exiled from Azeroth following the events of the Cataclysm expansion 12 years ago. Dragonflight will take place on the world of Azeroth, Players will go on a voyage to the mystical and unexplored Dragon Isles, where they will discover five zones, each of which is themed after one of the five dragon aspects.
Dracthyrs and Evokers will be the focus of the upcoming update, which will contain a new human dragon race and a new class, the Evoker. In addition, you will receive a customizable dragon mount, which comes with its own set of flight mechanics to learn and master. A new area, the Dragon Isles, will be available, as will the regular assortment of dungeons and raids. This includes a new Talent system, a reworked user interface, and other improvements.
Finally, here’s what we know so far about the next World of Warcraft Dragonflight Expansion.
World of Warcraft Dragonflight Release Date
World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s release date is still unknown, but previous Blizzard releases have shown that the expansion might appear as early as 2023.
While a specific launch date and signup period for the WoW Dragonflight Alpha are still pending, the game is expected to kick things off with an alpha test.
Brand New Continent – The Dragon Isles
Dragon Isles, will be dedicated to four new zones for players, as well as an additional new zone for Dracthyr Evokers who are just starting out in the game.
The Forbidden Reach
For level 58 Dracthyr players, this is a brand new starting zone. The dracthyr were born and taught in Neltharion’s former home (which subsequently became Deathwing). Until now, the land has been sealed and off.
Thaldraszus
The bronze dragonflight controls and maintains the flow of time in this zone, which is home to the seat of all dragonkind’s power.
The Waking Shores
The red dragonflight lays claim to the Waking Shores. Alexstrasza and Wrathion of the Red and Black Aspects will help players recapture the lost area and retake the black dragonflight stronghold of Neltharus from the enemy.
The Azure Span
Magical archives and frost-bitten gnolls, tuskarr, and more populate the ancient land of the blue dragonflight.
Ohn’ahran Plains
The ancient centaur tribes who once inhabited the ancestral home of the green dragonflight still hold sway in this land. It’s not long before the Alliance and the Horde arrive to help the land after Y’sera’s death in Legion.
New Mounts and Feature – Dragonriding
Dragonriding is a new form of aerial movement for players to use in the upcoming World of Warcraft Dragonflight expansion. A dragon is so important to Dragonflight that playing as one is not the only option. The Dragon Isle Drake is a mount that can be obtained through the game. It has been explained by Blizzard that your drake mount can be customized with various looks as well as abilities that allow you to fly further and faster.
Dragon riding is more difficult than flying in World of Warcraft so far. Blizzard says that riding your drake is something new, a really different manner of getting around. The new animations for diving and barrel rolling about the Isles, according to Blizzard’s devs, play into how momentum and gravity interact with dragon riding.
New Playable Race and Class – Dracthyr Evoker
There will be a dragon race in the future World of Warcraft expansion, yes. Dracthyr can take on a draconic or human shape, both of which can be customized throughout the creation process.
Blizzard, on the other hand, claims that dragons are so unique that they don’t fit into any of the existing classes. It’s time for the Dracthyr to get their own class: the Evoker. In addition, you have the option of joining the Horde or the Alliance.
They have a wide range of physical and magical skills, including flying overhead with dragon breath and unleashing wind with their wings. Here’s another detailed guide for the new Dracthyr Evoker Race and Class.
Reworked Professions
Blizzard is also reworking professions to be more in-depth, most likely taking inspiration from FFXIV, bringing player-driven work orders, new profession equipment, and an all-new specialization system, and more to help you become the recognized artisan in the realm.
Revamped Talent Tree Systems
Traditional talent trees will return in WoW Dragonflight, as they were prior to Cataclysm’s release in 2010. There will be many more options for players to choose from, allowing for greater variation amongst characters of the same class.
The new talent trees appear to offer more flexibility in customizing gameplay than the present ones, but they will need to be thoroughly tested to make sure they don’t introduce any unintended balancing issues. Shadowlands’ Covenant mechanics received a lot of criticism from gamers throughout alpha and beta, but Blizzard largely ignored it until the general public got their hands on the game and saw just how underpowered particular Covenant / spec combos were.
New UI Updates
The new UI modifications in WoW Dragonflight will provide players more flexibility over raid frames and the information that is shown and concealed to them. This means additional flexibility over the nameplate and the direct integration of several well-known features from long-ago expansions.
