How to unlock The Tale of Rowland Oakes Side Quest

To unlock The tale of Rowland Oakes side quest, you must first complete The Helm of Urtkot main quest.

The Tale of Rowland Oakes Objectives

• Talk to Adelaide Oakes
• Find Roland Oakes’ campsite

• Enter the goblin outpost

The Tale of Rowland Oakes side quest Walkthrough

After completing the required quest, the side quest will be updated in the log. Head over to the Transfiguration Courtyard in the Astronomy Wing to find Adelaide Oakes and start the quest.

Talk to Adelaide Oakes

Adelaide will ask for your help in finding out what happened to her uncle, Rowland Oakes.

Find Roland Oakes’ campsite

Head to the North Hogwarts Region to find Rowland Oakes’ campsite.

Defeat the Goblins Occupying Rowland’s Camp

Defeat all of the goblins within the campsite to proceed.

Investigate the campsite to find a clue

Within the campsite, you’ll find Rowland Oakes’ Journal on the floor and Rowland Oakes’ Map on a crate nearby.

Use Rowland’s map to follow his trail

To follow the landmarks on the map, continue down towards the southwest trail which follows the river. You’ll pass by the rock formation, then once you reach the split path, take the road to the west (right) to pass the crooked tree. Continue following the path and you’ll cross a bridge where the crumbling tower is. At the end of the trail, you’ll arrive at the Korrow Ruins.

Enter the goblin outpost

Make your way through the goblin outpost by defeating the goblins. As you enter the ruins, turn right and climb the ladder. Then head to the right and through the the gates to find a bonfire. Once you clear the goblins in this area, you can then enter the gate up ahead.

Explore the Goblin Outpost and find Rowland Oakes

Follow the marker through the different rooms and corridors of the ruins and you’ll eventually arrive at Rowland’s cell door underground.

Talk to Rowland through his cell door

Rowland need’s your help finding his wand so that he can free himself from the locked door.

Find Rowland’s wand

Head back up into the previous room and follow the marker to find the boiler door. Follow the pipe above the boiler door to find the boiler up above a higher level. Take the stairs up ahead to reach the boiler and then cast Incendio on it to open the boiler door.

Defeat all the goblins inside the next room, then head to the connecting room to find Rowland’s wand on a table.

Give Rowland his wand

Head back to Rowland’s cell and hand him his wand back. Go through the next dialogue to complete the quest.
