The Until Its Return is a Taken version of the Last Man Standing shotgun. It is Destiny 2’s first Strand shotgun. That alone should give some value to the weapon until a better, more hard-hitting shotgun is released.
Looking at the weapon’s perk pool, this shotgun appears to have been made with PvE in mind. There are a few good options for PvP. But for the most part, it will see the most use in PvE content and that’s mostly to do with the Cascade Point trait. This weapon’s unique selling point. Unfortunately, since it is a rapid-fire frame shotgun, the weapon won’t see much action in most serious PvP matches.
How to Get Until Its Return in Destiny 2?
To get weapons from the Deep weapon set, like the Until Its Return, Guardians have to take part in the seasonal activities: Salvage and Deep Dives. Getting five red border weapons and Deepsight activating them will unlock the crafting pattern for the weapon. Activity Keys improve the chances of acquiring red borders from the rewards chest at the end of an activity.
Best Until Its Return PvP God Rolls
- 1st Column: Smoothbore
- 2nd Column: Accurized Rounds
- Range Masterwork
- Quick Access Sling Mod
- Well-Rounded + Collective Action (This roll is best used in tandem with a Strand subclass, preferrable a build that can easily create Strand tangles. It also works well with the weapon’s Unsated Hunger Origin Trait.)
- Threat Detector + Cascade Point (This is what we consider the weapon’s “fun” combination. Get a kill with another weapon to activate Cascade Point, and you are free to ambush the next opponent with a swift death.)
PvP Tips:
The Well-Round + Collective Action roll is going to be your safe bet. It pretty much entertains a niche playstyle. Though there’s no denying that once you get used to swinging in and quickly pulling out your shotgun, you can find some enjoyment in surprising enemies. We still rather prefer hard-hitting shotties for the guaranteed kills though.
We didn’t expect to have so much fun using a rapid-frame shotgun in PvP. Threat Detector and Cascade Point really do contribute a lot to it. But under the right conditions, you can pull off some pretty crazy double kills that are only possible with a rapid-fire frame.
An Offhand Strike + Adrenaline Junkie roll can work well with a Strand build that has a focus on the Grapple ability. But more for players who are already good at hot swapping to the shotgun mid-grapple.
Best Until Its Return PvE God Rolls
- 1st Column: Smallbore
- 2nd Column: Tactical Mag
- Range Masterwork
- Quick Access Sling Mod (Major Spec Mod as an option)
- Overflow + Cascade Point (This is the PvE roll that you may want to be on the lookout for. Overflow gets you additional rounds in your magazine so you can go all-out with Cascade Point.)
- Auto Loading Hoster + Cascade Point (This is the roll that you will be more likely to use in end-game PvE content where green bricks are harder to find and every burst is reserved for yellow bar enemies.)
- Well-Rounded + Surrounded (An all arounder that covers all your bases. This roll also makes the most use of the weapon’s Origin Trait.)
PvE Tips:
Cascade Point is what you really want on this shotgun. If you’re at trying out Cascade Point on this weapon, then you’re really missing out on something that has the potential to melt yellow bars in a blink of an eye. Additionally, if there’s an activity with a Strand Surge, you may want to rock this shotgun for the heck of it.
How Good is the Until Its Return Shotgun?
It’s very easy to dismiss this shotgun because it has a rapid-fire frame. That’s understandable for the most part. Having Cascade Point on this weapon just opens up a playstyle option that you won’t see in most other shotguns. If it weren’t for that, there really isn’t much to this gun. And that’s the cold hard truth about this Taken weapon.
The best reason to grind for this weapon is to collect the crafting patterns so you can make the shotgun with all your preferred enhanced perks.
These are the Unti Its Return Base Stats before any perks are applied:
- Impact: 65
- Range: 28
- Stability: 32
- Handling: 36
- Reload Speed: 61
- Zoom: 12
- Rounds Per Minute: 140
- Magazine: 7
You have a decent number of perks to choose from. Apart from duds like Ensemble, you can pretty much get a good roll of the weapon most of the time. Unfortunately, it’s hard to recommend Vorpal Weapon since occupies the perk column as Cascade Point. Otherwise, that would have been a very good perk combination to use against bosses.
3rd Column Perks
- Well-Rounded
- Overflow
- Ensemble
- Auto-Loading Holster
- Threat Detector
- Offhand Strike
- Steady Hands
4th Column Perks
- Collective Action
- Trench Barrel
- Harmony
- Cascade Point
- Surrounded
- Adrenaline Junkie
- Vorpal Weapon
And that’s everything we have for right now on this Until Its Return god roll guide. It is unlikely that we’re going to find more interesting rolls for this shotgun but should we manage to stumble upon a sleeper hit, we will update this article as quickly as possible. Good luck and have fun out there, Guardians.
