Lies of P follows the story of P, a puppet created by Geppetto as a last resort to save the city of Krat from being fully destroyed by frenzying puppets and find out the cause behind all of the chaos. Thanks to its “lie mechanic”, players can experience different endings to the game by either sticking to the truth or tell a lie in certain situations.
Read ahead as we talk about the different endings of Lies of P and explain how to reach them.
Lies of P has three different endings, which all depend on whether you tell mostly lies or mostly truths, as well as on the choices you pick during certain situations, such as during the final scene with Sophia and the choice to be made with Geppetto. In order to experience all three endings, you will have to play the game at least three times. Check out our Lies and Truths Guide for Lies of P to find out what responses are lies and what are truths.
Each ending reached in Lies of P will unlock a specific achievement, plus there are also other achievements that are tied to events that are only available in a playthrough leading to a certain ending.
The three endings in Lies of P are:
- Real Boy: They All Lived Happily Ever After
- Free from the Puppet String
- Rise of P
How to get the Real Boy: They All Lived Happily Ever After Ending – Lie Playthrough
The Real Boy: They All Lived Happily Ever After ending can be considered as the “default” ending of Lies of P where P aims to be a real boy. In this ending, you will need to choose to tell lies during the truth or lie dialogue options to raise P’s humanity.
Next, during the final scene with Sophia at Ascension Bridge, you will need to choose the option “Give her peace”. Once you get to Simon Manus and he asks what you did to Sophia, choose the option “I gave her peace”.
Finally, after defeating Simon Manus, Awakened God, head down to Under the Abyss and choose the option to give the Heart to Geppetto.
After following all the steps, you will then be shown the final scenes for the Real Boy: They All Lived Happily Ever After ending and get its respective achievement. After the credits, do not start an NG+ run yet as you will also be able to access some achievements back in Hotel Krat, such as the Pianist of Krat achievement when you play a tune at the piano, and The Story of One Father achievement when you read the letter left on Geppetto’s desk.
How to get the Free from the Puppet String Ending – Truth Playthrough
The Free from the Puppet String ending will have P go against his instructions and to actually tell the truth. In this ending, you will need to choose to tell the truth during the truth or lie dialogue options to let the Ergo grow stronger within P.
Next, during the final scene with Sophia at Ascension Bridge, you will need to choose the option “Let her live”. This will allow you to talk to Simon Manus later on, then you can choose to tell him “I liberated her from Arche Abbey”.
Finally, head down to Under the Abyss and choose the option to refuse to give the Heart to Geppetto.
After following all the steps, you will then be fighting against the Nameless Puppet as the final boss of this run. Defeating it will reward you with the Nameless Puppet’s Ergo. The final scenes for the Free from the Puppet String ending will then be shown and you will get its respective achievement.
How to get the Rise of P Ending
The Rise of P ending is considered as the true ending and is almost similar to the lie playthrough since you are required to tell all lies in order to raise P’s humanity enough to turn him into a real boy. This will then result in a different outcome during the final scene with Geppetto.
To start, choose to lie in every choice dialogue you encounter. Lying will raise P’s humanity which is the vital requirement in unlocking the final scene. There are other ways of raising P’s humanity as well, such as praying to the statue in the Path of Mercy in Chapter 4 using the Pray gesture, and listening to the records you have collected.
Once you reach Sophia’s body in Chapter 11, choose the option “Give her peace”. If P’s humanity has been raised enough, an additional scene will show up where P’s hair will turn gray. This means that you are well on your way to reaching the true ending. This step may not be the one and only gate that will lead you to the true ending as there have been reports claiming that they did not get P’s hair to turn gray, yet they still managed to reach the true ending. So if you also skipped this scene, you don’t have to worry as there are other steps that can be done before the ending scene happens.
Proceed to defeat Simon Manus and tell him that you gave Sophia peace. Then, take the elevator to reach the Under the Abyss, but at this point, you only need to activate the Stargazer; do not interact with Geppetto just yet.
The next steps will help increase P’s humanity some more; getting the special weapon isn’t necessary, but the steps align with it that you might as well get it for the final fight.
Head back to Hotel Krat and go to Geppetto’s Study where you will notice that the nose on the portrait has grown long; this will only be possible if you have chosen to lie in every choice dialogue.
Next, you need to listen to all of the Records that you have collected within the game. Some players report that they weren’t able to collect all of the available records in the game and they just listened to what they had, yet they still got the true ending. The amount of records to listen to will definitely differ depending on how much humanity P still needs to reach the max threshold, and since there’s no visual way to track down his humanity meter, it’s best to listen to all that is available.
Go to the Gramophone and you will have to listen to all of the records completely and without stopping; if you have completely listened to some of the records before, you only need to listen to those that you haven’t heard fully yet. You will know that you have completed the records and done it right if you can finally interact with the nose on the portrait. Interacting with the portrait will finally give you the Golden Lie special weapon.
Now head back to Under the Abyss and talk to Geppetto, but instead of giving him the Heart, refuse to give the Heart to Geppetto. Defeat this final boss and you will unlock the Rise of P achievement.
After the credits, do not start an NG+ run yet as you will also be able to access some achievements back in Hotel Krat, such as The Story of the Blue Butterfly achievement when you read the letter left on Geppetto’s desk, and the Special Weapon Collector achievement when purchasing the special weapon from Explorer Hugo using the Ergo you got from the Nameless Puppet.
Is it possible to get two endings in one playthrough?
Yes, it’s possible to get two endings in one playthrough, but it requires some save scumming outside of the game. Since the game does not allow creating separate save files for one playthrough, PlayStation users can take advantage of the cloud save feature instead.
By playing a lie playthrough, a cloud backup can be made as soon as you activate the Stargazer in Under the Abyss. From here on, you can proceed with getting the Real Boy: They All Lived Happily Ever After ending and get the following achievements after its credits.
Once done, you can reload your cloud save, bringing you back to the Stargazer. You can then proceed with the steps on getting the Golden Lie special weapon to unlock the Rise of P ending, then remember to get the achievements after its credits before you go for an NG+ run for the Free from the Puppet String Ending ending.
