How to get the Gas Mask in Amnesia: The Bunker

Amnesia: The Bunker being set in WW1 means that you’ll need a gas mask to survive. Gas is deadly in the titular bunker, and without the gas mask, you’ll get hurt every time you pass by it, which also makes using the gas grenades a very deadly decision. You can find a gas mask in the game, which solves a lot of problems. Use this guide to learn how to get the gas mask in Amnesia: The Bunker.

Where to find the Gas Mask in Amnesia: The Bunker?

To find the gas mask, you have to open N. LAVAL’s locker in Mission Storage, which can be found in the Central Bunker. The codes for his locker can be found on one of the scattered dog tags throughout the titular bunker.

Since the locker codes are randomized, the four-digit combination lock on LAVAL’s locker will be different for each playthrough. There’s no way to know what the combination is until you find his dog tag. We found Laval’s dog tag in the hallway outside of the Break Room of the Soldier Quarters, but it may be different for you.

Once you find Laval’s dog tag, look behind it to see what the code for his locker is. You don’t need to memorize the specific four-digit combination, as it will easily be saved to your journal. When you finally have it, go back to the Mission Storage to retrieve the gas mask.

The gas mask isn’t necessary for completing the game. It is useful for protecting yourself against gas, which can harm you, especially if you trigger traps in the bunker or throw gas grenades. Taking the gas mask also gets you the Easy Breather achievement, which is important if you’re aiming for 100% Amnesia: The Bunker.

There are a few caveats to wearing the gas mask, as it will obscure your vision a bit, which may cause you to miss certain things. Some things also seem more muffled, which slightly affects your hearing efficiency. Because of this, it’s best that you only put on the gas mask whenever necessary.
