Hailed as the new King of DPS phases, the Cold Comfort brings to the table a groundbreaking perk combination that will shift the meta in ways not seen since the Hothead rocket launcher. This is going to be a wild one so let’s jump right into the article.
On the surface, the Comfort Comfort may seem like your typical Stasis rocket launcher. It is comparable to the Bump in the Night Aggressive frame but it has the potential to absolutely blow the competition out of the water.
How to get the Cold Comfort in Destiny 2?
The Cold Comfort rocket launcher can only be acquired from the Season 21 dungeon, Ghosts of the Deep. The weapon is a chance drop after any of the dungeon’s encounters. There is no guarantee of getting a roll every single time but the loot pool only has a small number of weapons and armor. The chances of getting a roll in one full dungeon run are good. Unless you are unfortunate enough to get nothing but armor pieces. (At least they look good.)
Best Cold Comfort PvP God Roll
- 1st Column: Volatile Launch
- 2nd Column: High-Velocity Rounds
- Blast Radius Masterwork
- Quick Access Sling Mod
- Impulse Amplifier + Chill Clip (This is the best combination for PvP you’ll probably find. Impulse Amplifier makes the rocket go faster and Chill Clip is just too good to pass up.)
- Tracking Module + Chill Clip (This is going to be more on the risky side since you do not want to be out in the open with heavy ammo, aiming at someone who is most likely already pre-aiming at you. But if done correctly, this one launch will almost always guarantee a kill.)
PvP Tip:
There are a lot of better options out there when it comes to PvP rocket launchers. Iron Banner’s Roar of the Bear and the Blowout. But it doesn’t mean it is completely unusable in PvP. Your options are just very limited to a couple of very good rolls.
When it comes to actually being in a PvP match, you have a couple of options when it comes to build crafting rocket launchers. Your first option is to spec into Velocity and blast any Guardian hiding behind a corner. The blast radius isn’t the best so it probably won’t kill more than one Guardian. Your second option is to go all out on Blast Radius. The problem is that Cold Comfort is an aggressive frame launcher. There’s a cap on how big the radius is. And you’ll be sacrificing velocity too.
Best Cold Comfort PvE God Roll
- 1st Column: Quick Launch
- 2nd Column: Impact Casing
- Handling or Reload Speed Masterwork
- Boss Spec Mod
- Envious Assassin + Bait and Switch (This is the combination that gives you the most amount of damage but it requires you to deal damage with your primary and energy weapons first in a short period of time. Destroys bosses.)
- Envious Assassin + Explosive Light (The less demanding option, you won’t do as much damage with this combination but all you need to do is to pick up an Orb of Power and Explosive Light will activate.)
PvE Tip:
Now we’re getting to the juicy stuff. The Cold Comfort was definitely made with PvE boss damage in mind. We haven’t gotten a rocket launcher that’s capable of shooting 4 rockets in quick succession. Until now.
Envious Assassin is going to load 3 rockets into the chamber after you’ve killed some ads using your other weapons. And then you will activate the Origin Trait by performing a finisher. This will add the fourth rocket in reserve.
When the damage phase begins, deal damage with your primary and energy weapon to activate Bait and Switch. Then quickly swap to Cold Comfort to fire a sweet melody of death in the form of four high-damaging rockets. The best part is, you’ll be able to reload a few more times before the phase ends. In our opinion, this rocket launcher gives Hothead a run for its money.
Explosive Light is easier to pull off. But the community agrees that this combination does less damage when compared to Bait and Switch. We understand why someone would opt for going for the less demanding option.
This rocket launcher also comes with the new Bipod trait. Don’t go for it. It is not good. Its best use case is in ad clear. But who uses rocket launchers to clear ads? Especially in end-game content.
How good is the Cold Comfort Rocket Launcher?
The Cold Comfort’s stats aren’t that much different from other aggressive frame rocket launchers. However, we can’t sing its praises enough in PvE as a boss killer. This is quickly becoming a must-have option for any and all boss damage phases. The amount of damage an entire team of Guardians with this weapon is unbelievable. And then throw in Witherhoard and Gjallarhorn for good measure. What a monster of a Legendary.
On the flip side, It is very much unremarkable in most PvP content. But that’s like saying the only reason to have a sniper rifle is for headshots and quick swaps. It is what it is. Stick to better options and only keep the god roll for PvP if you have nothing else in your vault that does the job.
These are the Cold Comfort Base Stats before any perks are applied:
- Blast Radius: 20
- Velocity: 69
- Stability: 28
- Handling: 23
- Reload Speed: 62
- Zoom: 20
- Rounds Per Minute: 25
- Magazine: 1
Stats-wise, Cold Comfort has a few more stat points higher than Bump in the Night. They’re basically the same in that regard. Bump in the Night, however, has far more PvE perks that are viable in most forms of PvE content.
3rd column perks
- Ensemble
- Shot Swap
- Impulse Ampflier
- Perpetual Motion
- Envious Assassin
- Tracking Module
4th column perks
- Collective Action
- Bipod
- Cluster Bomb
- Explosive Light
- Bait and Switch
- Chill Clip
And that’s everything we have for this Cold Comfort god roll guide. Exciting times lie ahead for this seemingly meta-defining weapon. We’ll keep an eye out to see how it evolves over the seasons. And who knows? We might find a use for the Bipod trait. Good luck and have fun out there, Guardians.
