Director Hideo Kojima has recently revealed that he will be “heavily involved” in the production of the upcoming Death Stranding movie, but there is a catch.
Hideo Kojima Deeply Involved in Filming Death Stranding
Kojima, the creator of various multi-awarded video games like the Metal Gear franchise, and Death Stranding series, revealed a while back that he will be making a film in the future and will be hands-on on it. He did not, however, clarify how involved he is in the film. This new post online now gives fans a hint of what his role is going to be.
“Just to be clear,” he explained. “I am deeply involved in producing, supervising, plotting, look, design, and content of the film adaptation of Death Stranding, just not in charge of directing.”
No Announcement of Directo Yet
No word yet on who will be directing the film or will the actors in the games will be joining like Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, or Lea Seydoux. It would make sense, though, if they acted in their respective roles.
Way back in December 2022, it was first announced that a Death Stranding film is in the works. The film will be produced by Kojima and Executive Producer Alex Lebovici.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios,” Kojima said at the time. “This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them in bringing Death Stranding to the big screen.”
“We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation, said Lebovici. “Unlike other big-budget tentpole video game adaptations, this will be something far more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an authentic Hideo Kojima production.”
