Even though Hogwarts Legacy is now facing controversy, it has now broken a new Twitch record in just the first day of early access.
Players who got the Deluxe Edition of the game were able to play via Early Access. In addition to the streamers and media outlets who also got early access, the game was a sure hit on Twitch and in doing so has broken a record. This new record is now in addition to its previous milestone: topping pre-order charts in the weeks up to the release.
According to reports, the game’s early access streams got a peak of 1.3 million concurrent viewers, which has now beaten the previous record that Cyberpunk 2077 held with 1.1 million views in December 2020.
The report comes from Ginx.tv which also gave out figures for other games. These are online titles, unlike Hogwarts Legacy, a single-player offline game. The online titles with bigger viewer records were Valorant with 1.72 million views in April 2020, League of Legends with 1.78 million views in November 2019, and Fortnite with 2.3 million views in June 2020.
The numbers have spiked like this partly because of the planned Twitch Drops event where players were given in-game freebies for watching the Hogwarts Legacy streams. The freebies were powerful gear that can be used right away in the game as long as they can claim them.
In other news, after the reveal of Hogwarts Legacy reviews, a transgender character was discovered in the game. This has now sparked outrage in the gaming community and has divided it. There were also groups that were asking players to boycott the game prior to the launch due to their speculations that JK Rowling would be involved and benefit from the sales.
Hogwarts Legacy launches on February 10, 2023 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
