LEGO Fortnite: Where to find obsidian

Crafting better utilities in LEGO Fortnite will eventually become more demanding, and you’ll find yourself looking for resources like Obsidian. This rare resource can only be found in one place, making it a challenge for those who want to make more advanced buildings.

To help you out, we’ve made this handy guide showing you how to obtain Obsidian and what it’s used for specifically in LEGO Fortnite.

    Where to find obsidian

Obsidian can only be mined inside the lava caves located in the Dry Valley biome of LEGO Fortnite. They’re so tough that you’ll need a Rare Pickaxe to even mine them from the walls they form on.

The biggest challenge is locating a lava cave to begin with, as they can only be found in the Dry Valley biome. LEGO Fortnite is procedurally generated, so there’s no set location for where you can find lava caves on the map. You’ll have to keep exploring until you find one.

And while you’re looking, you’re also subjected to the harsh conditions of the Dry Valley biome, where it’s extremely hot during the day and freezing at night. If you don’t have the right charms and consume the right meals for both Heat and Cold Resistance, you could die pretty fast.

Dry Valley caves in LEGO Fortnite

Being inside lava caves themselves is a different story to begin with, as they’re always super hot. I needed to equip two rare charms and eat food that gave me Heat Resistance just to make it out. That’s not even mentioning the Blaster enemies and the skeletons who chuck dynamite at you.

The other challenge is getting the Rare Pickaxe. You can craft one on the Crafting Bench for x3 Flexwood Rods and x3 Sand Claws. Once you have that, you can mine for Obsidian from deposits on the wall. The Obsidian deposits look like purple gems growing on the walls and ceilings of a lava cave.

What Obsidian is Used For in LEGO Fortnite?

Obsidian is the main resource for making Obsidian Slabs, which can then be used to craft and upgrade the following utilities:

    • Metal Smelter
    • Oven
    • Village Upgrade Level 9 & 10
    • Epic-Tier Crafting Bench
    • Epic Pickaxe

There are also a couple of furniture recipes that you can make using Obsidian alone, but that’s pretty much it since the ones listed above will mostly play the major part in your playthrough.
