The Ghost Writing Book is one of the starter Phasmophobia equipment that’s crucial for gathering evidence. The Ascension update has given this tool some additional features. You’ll need to know how it works to identify certain ghosts or cross-off ones from your list.
Communicating with the dead can often be violent in Phasmophobia, but the Ghost Writing Book allows ghosts to write for the living to see. However, not all ghosts like to communicate this way, which helps you narrow down what type of ghost you’re dealing with. In this guide, I’ll teach you how to use the Ghost Writing Book and its different types of tiers in Phasmophobia.
How to Get the Ghost Writing Book in Phasmophobia
The Ghost Writing Book is already unlocked by default since it’s one of the starter equipment in Phasmophobia. However, this is only the Tier I version, and you’ll have to unlock the more advanced tiers by leveling up. Regardless of the tier, it will always cost $40 per piece in the Equipment Store in the lobby.
You can only carry a maximum of 2 Ghost Writing Books per investigation. If you want to add or reduce more, you can go to the Equipment Store on the right side of the board, where you ready up.
Once you reach Level 23, you’ll unlock the ability to upgrade the Ghost Writing Book to Tier II for $3,000. The Tier III upgrade will be available for another $3,000 once you reach Level 63. Regardless of what tier you currently have equipped, the Ghost Writing Book will always remain the same price when purchasing it at the Equipment Store.
You can pick what Ghost Writing Book tier to bring with you by going to the Equipment Store, your Loadout, and clicking on the Ghost Writing Book. You’ll see the list of tiers you’ve unlocked which you can choose to bring with you. You’re only able to bring one tier of the Ghost Writing Book at a time. You are able to get around this and mix-and-match different Ghost Writing Book tiers in multiplayer where another player can bring the same equipment of a different tier.
Once you hit Level 100, you’ll get the option to Prestige. Doing so will reset your Ghost Writing Book back to Tier I.
How to Use Ghost Writing Book in Phasmophobia
To use the Ghost Writing Book, place it down using the ‘F’ key in the same area as the ghost. Then wait for the ghost to interact and write something on the book to get the evidence you need. The chances of a ghost interacting with the Ghost Writing Book depends on its tier.
The Tier I Ghost Writing Book doesn’t really attract that much chances to attract ghost with its simple design. It only has a range of 3 meters and a low interaction rate. Since its your starter equipment you’ll have to bare with it until you upgrade it.
Tier II is where the Ghost Writing Book becomes more useful with its 4 meter range. It will now have a medium chance for an interaction rate so you’ll be able to narrow down the ghost type sooner.
The highest chances for interaction is with the Tier III Ghost Writing Book. It has a range of 5 meters and you’ll almost always get the ghost to write something on it without waiting for a while.
What Ghosts Interact with the Ghost Writing Book?
Not every ghost will write on the Ghost Writing Book. Only these ghosts will have a chance to write something down:
- Spirit
- Poltergeist
- Mare
- Demon
- Myling
- Moroi
- Revenant
- Deogen
- Shade
- Thaye
Once the ghost starts writing something on the Ghost Writing Book, you’ll see the pen move around in the air by itself. You might want to check back time after time to see if the ghost wrote anything on the Ghost Writing Book.
