When it comes to chronological viewing, some details from the previous game may be crucial to understanding the plot of the current one. So before playing Dead Island 2, you may be considering playing the first game before doing so.

    Even though there are interesting details that you’ll catch on to, it isn’t necessary to play Dead Island before Dead Island 2. The second game offers a separate story that’s free from the first one.

    You do get to meet a character from the first game in this one and does have a couple of throwbacks to the events of Dead Island. However you won’t be lost at all even if you’ve never played the first game. The events that happens in Dead Island 2 can be taken a completely separate experience.

    Although it can be more fun to play Dead Island before Dead Island 2 if you want to experience the previous game before moving on to the next one.

    Should You Play Dead Island Riptide Before Dead Island 2?

    It isn’t necessary to play Dead Island Riptide before Dead Island 2. The story of Riptide isn’t related to the second game and can be experienced separately.

    Dead Island Riptide takes place immediately after the ending of the first game. Although the story in Riptide and the Dead Island 1 may be related, they’re completely separate from Dead Island 2. No need to worry about missing out on any important details.

    Dead Island 2 has new zombie types and six new protagonists. There’s a different kind of outbreak that’s happening in Los Angeles, compared to the fictional island in the previous games. This will be a completely new experience even for those who have played the previous games.
