What Does the Photo Camera Do in Phasmophobia?

The Photo Camera let’s you take pictures of cursed possessions, ghost events, and other paranormal interactions which gives you additional rewards at the end of the contract.

How to Get the Photo Camera in Phasmophobia

You’ll unlock the Photo Camera once you reach Level 3. You can then add it to your Loadout via the Equipment Store in the lobby.

How Much Does the Photo Camera Cost in Phasmophobia?

The Photo Camera costs $40 per purchase and will remain the same price regardless of what tier you’re using.

    Phasmophobia Photo Camera Tiers

    Photo Camera tiers - Phasmophobia
    • Tier I — An old camera that prints photos as you take them. Has a high cooldown between each photo. Isn’t considered an electronic device.
    • Tier II — A compact camera that has a display screen and let’s you take multiple shots. Will have paranormal interference when the ghost manifests. Is considered an electronic.
    • Tier III — A state-of-the-art photo camera that lets you take multiple photos in quick succession. It has a display screen that will suffer from paranormal interference should the ghost manifest.

When you reach Level 100, you’ll be presented with the option to Prestige. When you Prestige, all your equipment including the Photo Camera goes back to Tier I.

How to Upgrade the Photo Camera in Phasmophobia

You can upgrade the Photo Camera by reaching higher levels and the making a one-time purchase for an upgrade in the Equipment Store.

    • Tier II Upgrade — Unlocked at Level 25 and costs $3,000 to upgrade.
    • Tier III Upgrade — Unlocked at Level 70 and costs $5,000 to upgrade.

After upgrading the Photo Camera, you can select what tier to bring with you by going to the Equipment Store, your Loadout, and clicking on the Camera. You’ll be able to choose what to bring from the tiers you’ve unlocked.

How to Use the Photo Camera in Phasmophobia

With the Photo Camera in your hand, press right-click on your mouse to take a picture. The Photo Camera will already turn on by itself once you step outside of the truck.

Any photos you take will be saved on your Journal which you can access by pressing J on your keyboard. You’ll know that you have additional rewards by looking at how many stars each photo has underneath which is decided by the distance.

    Journal Photos - Phasmophobia

Once you’ve been credited for a photo, taking additional photos of the same thing won’t give you any more rewards. For example, there can only be one photo of the bone hidden in the location or the ghost. However you can take multiple photos of different ghost interactions and still receive additional rewards.

Before the Ascension update, you were limited to only 5 photos per Photo Camera. This has changed since then and you can take an unlimited number of photographs. However, only the first 10 photos will count towards earning the photo rewards. You can still fulfill bonus objectives such as photographing the ghost even if your Journal is already full.
