Alone in the Dark (2024): How to Unlock All Endings & Secret Ending

A guide on how to unlock and complete the secret endings in Alone in the Dark (2024)

Alone in the Dark’s 2024 remake has several different endings for each of the main characters and for a side character. These endings can only be reached after completing specific Lagniappe sets and completing the secret objectives that follow. Read ahead as we go through the steps on how to unlock all of the secret endings in Alone in the Dark.

Each of the secret endings, excluding Grace’s, is exclusive to either Emily or Edward as some of the lagniappes needed to unlock them can only be found through their respective playthroughs. Both of the main character’s endings can be considered as the bad endings of the game, while Grace’s secret ending can be considered as the best ending, mainly because it skips the final boss fight which could be helpful in unlocking the I Don’t Got All Night Achievement.

Emily Hartwood Bad Ending – Radical Acceptance

Emily Hartwood’s bad ending can be unlocked by completing the Dying With Dignity lagniappe set. The set includes:

  • Sheet Music – Chapter 2, Lafayette Cemetery, after picking up The Sacrifice, look for a gap in the wall on the path going back to the surface.
  • War Photo – Chapter 4, exclusive to Emily, Derceto, inside Ruth’s room.
  • Toe Tag – Chapter 4: exclusive to Emily, Morgue, on John’s corpse.

After obtaining all the pieces of the Dying With Dignity set, you will get the special objective “The Hartwood Curse”. Go to the small room in between Dr. Gray’s study and bedroom where you can wash the paint off Jeremy’s portrait. The portrait will now show a portrait of a different person, to which it will give you the option to Obey. Doing so will lead to another objective that will eventually end with Emily submitting herself to the Dark Man. This ending will unlock the Radical Acceptance Achievement.

*Note: This ending is currently unobtainable due to a bugged objective.

Edward Carnby Bad Ending – One of the Thousand Young

Edward Carnby’s bad ending can be unlocked by completing the A Goat Without Horns lagniappe set. The set includes:

  • Preserved Reptile – Chapter 1, French Quarter, after the interaction with Batiste inside Johnny the Conqueror, it can be found on the table (Edward) or on the floor (Emily).
  • Profane Totem – Chapter 4: exclusive to Edward, Pearl River Bridge, from the starting shack down to the first fork in the road, take the left path to find the shack where the lagniappe is at.
  • Jangling Shaker – Chapter 4, Derceto, during the Empty Room objective, check behind the bar inside the Grand Parlor (Maccabean).

After obtaining all pieces of the A Goat Without Horns set, you will get the special objective “The Tree whispers”. Go to the Whispering tree in the conservatory during Chapter 4 and go behind it. You will be given the option to give an offering to the tree. Once done, your objective will be updated where you will have to wait for the tree’s call and it will eventually end with Edward joining the cult himself. This ending will unlock the One of the Thousand Young Achievement.

This ending is currently unobtainable due to a bugged objective.

Grace Saunders Best Ending – What Just Happened?

The best ending for Alone in the Dark involves giving Grace Saunders something to play with, and it can be unlocked by completing the All the World’s a Stage lagniappe set. The set includes:

  • Curious Napkin – Chapter 4, exclusive to Edward, French Quarter, directly to the right side upon entering St. George Hotel.
  • Box of Biscuits – Chapter 4, exclusive to Emily, Medical Ward – Morgue, on a table inside the room where the blueprint puzzle is at.
  • Toy Talisman – Chapter 4, Derceto, inside Dr. Gray’s study in his apartment, appears on the floor right after opening the hidden bookcase door.

After obtaining all the pieces of the All the World’s a Stage set, you will get an objective to give Grace a present. Progress through the story until you reach Chapter 5, then make a save file first before approaching Grace. Next, talk to Grace by the Whispering tree until you are given the option to give her something to play with. Choosing the option will skip the boss fight and start a cutscene showing Grace inside the theater in Gallatin street.

In this cutscene, Grace is shown to be playing with the Toy Talisman just outside the theater room. It is not made clear as to how this scene came to be, hence the What Just Happened? Achievement, but it can either be assumed that Grace was adopted by Emily after their time at Derceto, or all of the events in the game were just from Grace’s imagination. Regardless of what it could be, this scene does tease the possibility of a sequel to the remake.
