In Alone in the Dark, Lagniappes refer to collectibles that players can discover or unlock within the game. Collecting Lagniappes can unlock a bonus weapon, special cutscenes, and Alone in the Dark’s secret ending.
There are certain Lagniappes that only Edward or Emily can access and will require multiple playthroughs of the game, at least a total of two times, once as Edward and one more time as Emily. Some Lagniappes are missable due to being hidden somewhere inconspicuous, others require you to unlock a safe to get them. If you proceed beyond that stage without collecting it then you will have to replay through this chapter again. Thus, always keep a Save on individual chapters.
There are a total of 45 Alone in the Dark Lagniappes, divided across 12 sets of three items each. Finishing a Lagniappe set for the first time will get you Don’t Mind If I Do Achievement Achievement. This guide will help you on how not to miss any Lagniappe as you play Alone in Dark (2024). I have also added links to detailed walkthroughs that show how each item is picked up in the game.
All Lagniappes in Alone in the Dark
A Goat Without Horns Lagniappes
Completing the ‘A Goat Without Horns’ Lagniappe set unlocks “The Tree Whispers” secret objective for Edward in Chapter 4. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Preserved Reptile – Chapter 1, French Quarter, inside the Johnny the Conqueror store after the cutscene with Batiste. On the table for Edward; on the floor for Emily.
- Profane Totem – Chapter 4, exclusive to Edward, near the Pearl River Bridge. Take the left path on the first fork on the road, which leads to a shack.
- Jangling Shaker – Chapter 4, exclusive to Emily, located behind the bar during the transformed Grand Parlor, when you are tasked to take a look at the Empty Room.
A Great Depression Lagniappes
Completing the ‘A Great Depression’ Lagniappe set unlocks a Forbidden Knowledge in the game. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Rat Poison – Chapter 1, Derceto, on the floor inside the pantry at the start of the game.
- Beignet: Chapter 2, Derceto. On top of a shelf near the door at the southwest corner of the mezzanine.
All the World’s a Stage Lagniappes
Completing the ‘All the World’s a Stage’ Lagniappe set unlocks the “Grace without Horns” objective which leads to the secret best ending of Alone in the Dark. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Curious Napkin – Chapter 4, exclusive to Edward, French Quarter, near the entrance of St. George’s Hotel.
- Toy Talisman – Chapter 4, Derceto, on the floor after opening the hidden door inside Dr. Gray’s apartment.
- Box of Biscuits – Chapter 4, exclusive to Emily after the war flashback. Found on top of a table inside the Old Archives.
A Thousand Young Lagniappes
Completing the ‘A Thousand Young’ Lagniappe set unlocks a Forbidden Knowledge in the game. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Nurse’s Watch – Chapter 2, Derceto, inside Lottie’s room (orderly) by the window.
- Forsaken Crucifix – Chapter 2, inside the Wine Cellar, in between the holes of the wine shelf.
- Severed Horn – Chapter 3, Gallatin Street, inside the Prezgt warehouse, on top of a crate on the ground floor.
Beast of Burden Lagniappes
Completing the ‘Beast of Burden’ Lagniappe set unlocks a Forbidden Knowledge in the game. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Mummified Cat – Chapter 2, Derceto, in the kitchen garden near the statue where Mags buried it.
- Gazing Statuette – Chapter 2, Hateful Mound, past the small red gate, inside the third house near the water.
- Unmasked Evil – Chapter 3, inside the Library of Taroella. head to the third floor and squeeze through the wall covered in vines near the dining table before you get the Key of Hubertus.
Death of the Author Lagniappes
Completing the ‘Death of the Author’ Lagniappe set unlocks a Forbidden Knowledge in the game. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Typewriter Ribbon – Chapter 3, New Orleans Riverside, at the base of the huge crane near the water.
- Broken Spectacles – Chapter 4, Derceto. Interact with the sink in the restroom (WC) connected to the servant’s stairs.
- Movie Script – Chapter 4, Derceto, inside a case near the door in Cassandra’s room.
Dying with Dignity Lagniappes
Completing the ‘Dying with Dignity’ unlocks “The Hartwood Curse” secret objective which is a secret cutscene of a Hidden Attic Memory in Alone in the Dark. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Sheet Music – Chapter 2, Lafayette Cemetery, right after getting the third medallion, look for a gap in the cave wall that leads to a small room.
- War Photo – Chapter 4, exclusive to Emily, Derceto, on the drawers inside Ruth’s room.
- Toe Tag – Chapter 4, exclusive to Emily. After the cutscene where the Dark Man gives you the key, go inside the flooded morgue and collect the lagniappe from the corpse.
Lost Children Lagniappes
Completing the ‘Lost Children’ Lagniappe set unlocks the shotgun cabinet and lets you obtain the weapon. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Rubber Stamp – Chapter 1, Derceto, by the reception window inside the reception room.
- Fountain Pen – Chapter 2, Derceto, on a table inside Batiste’s room.
- Dog Collar – Chapter 2, Derceto, on a table inside the drawing room.
Prisoner of Ice Lagniappes
Completing the ‘Prisoner of Ice’ Lagniappe set unlocks a Forbidden Knowledge in the game. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Tessellated Shard – Chapter 4, Derceto, in a small section of the attic.
- Do Not Disturb – Chapter 4, Derceto, after coming back from the steamboat, check the door to Dr. Gray’s apartment at the second floor.
- Sallow Offering – Chapter 4, Coast of Greenland, on a tent near the starting bonfire.
The Crescent City Lagniappes
Completing the ‘The Crescent City’ Lagniappe set unlocks a Forbidden Knowledge in the game. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Streetcar Ticket – Chapter 1, Derceto, on a shelf inside the cellar.
- Ju-ju – Chapter 1, French Quarter, second floor, by the stairs that lead to Miss Jackson’s place.
- Matchbook – Chapter 3, Gallatin Street, immediately obtained at the start of the chapter.
The Hartwood Curse Lagniappes
Completing ‘The Hartwood Curse’ Lagniappe set unlocks a hidden memory or special cutscene by interacting with the Noose in the Attic. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Discarded Palette – Chapter 2, during the Hateful Mound playthrough. After you fix and cross the bridge, head upstairs, and before jumping through the window, squeeze through the containers to your right to find a box containing the item.
- Alone in the Dark – Open the Dial Safe inside the Clerk’s Office anytime before Chapter 4 using the combination: 913, to get this lagniappe.
- Witness the Black Pharaoh – Chapter 3, Gallatin Street, past the Pregzt warehouse, on the side of the next building after the fog has lifted.
The Pirates of Pontchartrain Lagniappes
Completing ‘The Pirates of Pontchartrain’ Lagniappe set unlocks a Forbidden Knowledge in the game. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Opera Playbill – Chapter 4, Derceto, on a chair inside the small parlor.
- Map of Caribbean – Chapter 4, Derceto, inside the globe in the sitting room.
- Pallid Mask – Chapter 4, Steamboat, go to the upper deck and drop down the hole near the bell to get access to the room where the mask is.
Unspeakable Cults Lagniappes
Completing the ‘Unspeakable Cults’ Lagniappe set unlocks a Forbidden Knowledge in the game. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Children of the Dark Sun – Chapter 3, Beyond the Nile Valley, in the small room next to the door that leads to the top of the statues that has a lens.
- Scapegoat – Chapter 4, Derceto, on a gurney near the entrance to the infirmary.
Vagabonds Lagniappes
Completing the ‘Vagabonds’ Lagniappe set unlocks a Forbidden Knowledge in the game. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- A Brightness From Afar – Chapter 2, Derceto, on a table inside the mezzanine where Ruth was at.
- Canopic Jar – Chapter 3, Beyond the Nile Valley, inside the first chamber, right below the statue near the lever.
- Broken Compass – Chapter 4, during the Steamboat flashback. Head to the bottom deck of the Boat using the stairs and go right to reach a red door. Once inside, you’ll find the compass on top of a crate near the railing.
When It Makes You Worse Lagniappes
Completing the ‘When It Makes You Worse’ Lagniappe set unlocks a Forbidden Knowledge in the game. Here’s where to find all three item pieces for the set:
- Rorschach – Chapter 2, Derceto, inside the clerk’s office near the vault.
- The Flying Dutchman – Chapter 4, Derceto, on the patient’s couch inside the treatment room.
Collecting all of the 45 Lagniappes unlocks Look At All The Free Stuff I Got! Achievement.
