Shin Megami Tensei V All Demon Skill Types

In Shin Megami Tensei V, there are a variety of Demon Skill Types that you can utilize in combat.

They’re all differently classications ranging from Physical Skills, Elemental Skills, Passive Skills, Defense Skills, Support Skills, and Recovery Skills.

The two two new type of Demon Skills introduced in Shin Megami Tensei V are Magatsuhi and Miracles.

Sources of Skills in Shin Megami Tensei V

Our protagonist can gain new skills through a variety of different means. There are four ways for Nahobino to add more to his arsenal.

    Magatsuhi

    Magatsuhi Shin Megami Tensei

Magatsuhi are powerful new skills introduced to Shin Megami Tensei V as they have several benefits that can turn the tides into the protagonist’s favor.

Magatsuhi require no MP to use and will not end your turn. This means that Nahobino is essentially taking two actions in a single turn. They also won’t take the 8 skill slots so you won’t need to delete any skills you have.

The catch is is that you can’t use it like any ordinary ability. There’s a Magatsuhi gauge meter that must be filled first before use. You fill up this gauge by taking actions during combat.

Magatsuhi skills are exclusive to a certain demon race. This means each demon race has their own Magatsuhi unique to them.

Your protagonist is the exception as he can also use the Magatsuhi skills of his demon allies. Be warned as enemies can also use these against you.

    Miracles

Miracles are passive skills separate to your regular passive skills. They’re more unique and powerful for one thing.

You can acquire Miracles by exchanging Glory points for them in Sophia’s shop in the World of Shadows. You gain Glory points by assessing enemy or by defeating Nigi Mitama which will drop it in large quantities.

    Demon Allies

    Demon Allies Shin Megami Tensei

Demon allies can grant Nahobino skills. They have certain affinity for specific attributes which will make adding them as allies extremely useful. They will also grant you Magatsuhi abilities.

Fusing your demon allies in the World of Shadows will also cause the new powerful addition to your party to inherit some of their skills.

    Battle Items

They’re usable items that function like normal skills but without the MP use.

Types of Skills in Shin Megami Tensei V

There are seven types of skills in Shin Megami Tensei V each having their own utility. Here’s all of them.

    Physical

Unlike previous installments, physical skills will cost you MP this time around. Your basic attacks won’t cost anything but won’t be as powerful. Physical skills can come with bonus effects such as poison and pierce damage.

    Elemental Skills

Elemental skills are divided into different subcategories. You have fire, ice, force, electricity, Dark, Light, and Almighty. These subcategories have their own bonus effects as fire can inflict burn, electricity may inflict paralyze, and etc.

Some demons are weak against specific elementals which you can take advantage of. Almighty is unique in this category for being a “neutral” elemental skill with no strengths or weaknesses.

    Instant Death

Any Light or Dark skill that comes with a chance of death is taking a gamble. You’ll immediately rid an an enemy in battle should fortune smile on you. This ability obviously won’t work on stronger demons.

    Ailment Skills

Ailment skills are status effects inflicted upon enemies. These can provide an advantage for you as they handicap the enemy. There’s a new ailment introduced in Shin Megami Tensei V called Illusion.

    Passive and Miracle Skills

Passive skills are naturally reoccurring on the field without activation. They’re always in effect during fights and can enhance several of your abilities such as dodging. Passive skills tip the fight in your favor.

    Recovery Skills

Recovery skills keep you alive and in fighting condition. They’re essential as you lose health it’s game over. Being able to recover from damage dealt to you and MP resources spent is paramount to survival.

    Support Skills

Support skills are buffs you apply to allies and yourself which enhance your abilities. However they can also be debuffs by decreasing enemy attack damage, accuracy, and etc.

    Magatsuhi Skills

Magatsuhi skills are powerful abilities that can only be used once the gauge meter for it has been filled. These will not cost you a turn and can be used without MP. They can either deal damage or use support and healing skills.

Magatsuhi have four skill types: Gospel, Supremacy, Awakening, and Universe.
