Which Company Owns Call of Duty?

The Call of Duty franchise is a household game for many players around the world. You can’t go through the gaming industry without at least having heard of this legend made by Infinity Ward. With the recent acquisition of its publisher studio, people are wondering who are the owners of the Call of Duty IP.

    Who Owns Call of Duty?

Right now Activision Blizzard owns the rights to the Call of Duty franchise. However with the Microsoft acquisition of the company, this will soon change when the deal is finalized in 2023.

What this could mean for the Call of Duty franchise once Microsoft has full control is currently unknown. We don’t really know what Microsoft plans to do with the Call of Duty IP after their purchase of Activision Blizzard is finalized. But we are speculating that this is a huge victory for Call of Duty on Xbox who for years have been offering bonuses to PlayStation console players.

We may see some Call of Duty titles spring up on the Xbox Game Pass in 2023. Depending on how things go, this purchase is a huge victory for Microsoft owns Call of Duty in the future.

Will Call of Duty Become an Xbox Exclusive?

There’s a lot of doubt that Call of Duty will remain on the PlayStation consoles for long. While Microsoft has stated that making Call of Duty an exclusive wouldn’t be profitable, they also offered to support Call of Duty on the PlayStation consoles for only three years after the current agreement between Activision and Sony has expired.

It isn’t concrete that Call of Duty will be leaving the PlayStation consoles, but it is pretty alarming news that it could become an exclusive if Microsoft presses on it. Once the deal to acquire Activision Blizzard finalizes in 2023, they’ll have control over which platform they want the Call of Duty franchise to go to after the deal between Sony and Activision Blizzard expires.
