If you have been playing Swansong and have seen the QR codes at the Red Salon, you might have already whipped up your QR scanner and ended up in a weird website that requires a password.
Now, we were able to crack what the password is, but we’re not actually sure what we’re supposed to do next. Which is why we’re still on the fence on calling this as an alternate reality game or ARG.
Swansong just came out so there’s not much info about this extra bit of content, but we’re hoping that fans of the Vampire: The Masquerade franchise can make something out of it using its rich lore.
Spoiler Warning: There are going to be spoilers.
Where does the QR code from Red Salon boxes lead?
The QR code leads to a website called Friends of Boston Club (https://thefriendsofbostonclub.net/). It’s a very unassuming website with a button at the bottom that lets you download a map. However, it requires a password. Luckily, there is a hint on the dialogue box that goes: “What does the bird at the corner of Charles and Boylston say?”
What is the Password for the Friends of Boston website?
The password is “nevermore“. This is a reference to Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven. Charles and Boylston are street names in Boston, Massachusetts, and in one of the corners is the statue of Edgar Allan Poe accompanied by a huge bird.
This is a part of The Raven where the bird spoke:
But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only,
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing further then he uttered – not a feather then he fluttered –
Till I scarcely more than muttered `Other friends have flown before –
On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before.’
Then the bird said, `Nevermore.’
Typing this password in will lead you to a picture of the Boston Area map showing different landmarks and a line that ends at the location where Paul Revere’s house stands.
Shown on the map are the following landmarks, from left to right:
- State Library of Massachusetts
- Park Street Church
- Boston City Hall
- Post Office Square
What does the Latin on the Friends of Boston website mean?
Sicut patribus, sit deus nobis means “As with our fathers, may God be with us.” which is the motto of Boston.
What happens next?
Well, this is where we are stumped. As to how this ties up to the story aside from Boston being the setting for Swansong, we have yet to sort it out. If we do get additional information, we’ll definitely have this article updated.
