Every New Year, Overwatch celebrates this occasion with a bang. With the year of the Rabbit coming soon, Blizzard will begin to launch one of its most special events called the Lunar New Year 2023 Event. In this guide, players will be introduced to what rumored skins, prizes, and modes they expect on this beautiful occasion, so read on.
What is the Lunar New Year Event in Overwatch?
The Lunar New Year event is a seasonal event in the game that is based on the Lunar New Year festival celebrated in the majority of Asian countries. Since Overwatch 2 release on the major consoles, returning events with better prizes and game modes from Junkenstein’s Revenge to the current Winter Wonderland Event have constantly been popping up.
Overwatch 2 Lunar New Year 2023 Event Start Date
According to the roadmap revealed at the beginning of season 2 of Overwatch 2, this upcoming new year event will celebrate the Year of the Rabbit and is expected to launch on January 17, 2023, and end on February 6, 2023.

Since this is a new year event, there are bound to be returning skins that were popular in the previous events through the years. Skins for Mei, Tracer, Orisa, and more will once again be available for purchase in the SHOP section of the game. But more importantly, it is confirmed that we are new skins for other heroes.
Overwatch 2 Lunar New Year Event 2023 Arcade Modes
It is also expected there will a number of time-limited events in the arcade modes. Though Blizzard has yet to announce what they are, it is expected that these popular events will make their return to the game:
- Bounty Hunter
- In this mode, players will participate in a free for all match.
- They will earn points from other players especially if they are not the target
- Every few minutes or so, the game will randomly pick a player and he or she will become the main target of other players. If they are taken out, the one who has been eliminated will receive bonus points
- Capture The Flag
- In this mode, teams of 2 must work together to capture the flag of the opposing team
- Players may capture the flag regardless of whether their own flag is at their home base or not.
- If the flag bearer is killed on the way back, the flag will be dropped on the ground, and any player of both teams can claim it by standing over it for 2.5 seconds
