The Sole Survivor is a reprieved weapon that somehow resurfaced the same way that it was back when it was first released way back when. It is an Arc Adaptive Frame sniper that has one perk that no other sniper can get in the current sandbox.
Our initial impression of the gun is that it’s kind of slow. It would make more sense further down the article. As for aesthetics, you’re either going to love or hate the chevron at the center of the screen. It’s ok in our opinion but we understand if there are some near misses brought about by the uncommon shape.
How to Get Sole Survivor in Destiny 2?
The Sole Survivor is part of the Reckoning weapon set. Meaning that the only way to acquire a random roll of the weapon is to either deliver Legendary fish to the H.E.L.M. and hope to get a roll of the weapon or focus farm one from the Sonar Station.
To focus a roll of the weapon, you’ll need to exchange 4 Deep Engrams and some Glimmer for a roll of the weapon. Farming enough Deep Engrams will probably take up the most amount of time but will yield you more rolls in the end.
Best Sole Survivor PvP God Roll
- 1st Column: Fluted Barrel
- 2nd Column: Ricochet Rounds
- Range Masterwork (Handling as an option)
- Quick Access Sling Mod
- Snapshot Sights + Eye of the Storm (Having Snapshot Sights on is like having high Handling, minus the swap speed. Eye of the Storm increases accuracy and handling the lower your health gets. Perfect for in-combat sniping.)
PvP Tips
To our knowledge, there aren’t any snipers that can roll with Snapshot Sights and Eye of the Storm. This is the only combination that makes this gun stand out in PvP. It is sort of a specialist in that regard. You are sacrificing flexibility to be able to be good at one or two things.
Interestingly enough, it doesn’t take much to activate Eye of the Storm. It just takes a little bit of shield damage to partially activate the perk and you’re on your way to reaping the benefits.
You can still go for something with Rapid Hit or even Frenzy. But the low stat values make this weapon difficult to consider when there are a host of better options out there to choose from. We’re talking about other Adaptive Frames like the Beloved or the Gallu RR3, that’s also an Arc sniper.
Best Sole Survivor PvE God Rolls
- 1st Column: Fluted Barrel
- 2nd Column: Armor-Piercing Rounds
- Range Masterwork
- Quick Access Sling Mod
- Lead From Gold + Voltshot (This combination can give you some sustainability in a prolonged fight. Voltshot may have been nerfed this season but it can still do work, even on a sniper rifle.)
- Rapid Hit + Frenzy (This combination gives you an option for burst DPS against Majors and other Yellow Bars. Rapid Hit’s activation condition is precision hits, not precision kills, giving it value as DPS option. Frenzy is good overall.)
PvE Tips
There’s no right way to build this weapon for PvE. It doesn’t hit hard enough to be a viable option against bosses. And there are so many better options when it comes to Arc Adaptive Frame snipers.
But don’t let us discourage you. If you happen to love the archetype or just Sole Survivor itself, then have at it. Destiny 2 allows for thousands of possibilities. Someone’s going to like this weapon in PvE. Might as well be someone who can put it to good use.
How good is the Sole Survivor?
The Sole Survivor has the worst stats for an adaptive frame sniper. It’s not even close. Its only redeeming quality is the fact that it has one PvP roll that’s so special that it’s worth farming engrams to get it. It doesn’t have any great PvE combinations despite having good PvE perks. It’s just its stats that are killing its value to most players. If you decide to run with this sniper, it is because you really like it.
This weapon is a specialist that’s good under the right conditions. If you manage to get the PvP god roll, it’s going to be really good as a dueling option if you manage to survive the opening moments of an encounter. You’re still going to rely on Snapshot Shots most of the time but at least you have some breathing room before pulling the trigger.
These are the Sole Survivor base stats before any perks are applied:
- Impact: 70
- Range: 45
- Stability: 36
- Handling: 42
- Reload Speed: 43
- Zoom: 40
- Rounds Per Minute: 90
- Magazine: 4
All the weapon’s perks are good on their own. With the exception of Eddy Current. That perk doesn’t do anything for you unless you’re on an Arc subclass and you happen to be Amplified.
3rd Column Perks
- Outlaw
- Snapshot Sights
- Rapid Hit
- Eddy Current
- Field Prep
- Lead From Gold
4th Column Perks
- Voltshot
- Focused Fury
- Firing Line
- Vorpal Weapon
- Frenzy
- Eye of the Storm
Like every weapon in the Reckoning weapon set, the Sole Survivor is good at a handful of things. It does ok in most sandbox content below Master difficulty. More importantly, it has a place in the Crucible. If you happen to have some leftover engrams near the end of the season, it might be worth taking a chance at this weapon’s PvP god roll. Good luck and have fun out there, Guardians.
