The Destiny 2 Xenology quest is given to you by Xur. You may remember him as that one guy who keeps coming back every weekend to offer you an updated list of exotics, but he also has his own unique quest that you can partake in to earn some free exotic cipher. This guide will give you a walkthrough of the Destiny 2 Xenology quest.
Destiny 2 Xenology Quest Guide
The Destiny 2 Xenology quest isn’t too taxing however it does ask you to partake in the usual core playlists more than a couple of times. The Xenology quest has two parts and they’re fairly straight forward. Here is everything you need to do to complete this quest:
- Complete strikes or win matches in Crucible or Gambit.
- Return to Xur.
Once you complete those, you can receive your exotic gear as a reward. But first you have to find Xur to undertake this quest. You can only find him on Fridays and he’s gone by Tuesday. Normally NPCs have a fixed location, but this sneaky trader loves to be in multiple spots.
You can normally find Xur in three places. The first one is the Winding Cave in EDZ. The second place is Watcher’s Grave on Nessus. And finally if he isn’t on any of those two, he’s sure to be in the Tower’s Hangar.
Complete Strikes or Win Matches in Crucible or Gambit
The task is simple: you just have to complete strikes or win matches in Crucible or Gambit. However doing this 21 times can seem like a daunting task. Luckily there are ways to breeze through it faster.
By completing more challenging tasks like Nightfall activities and tackling Crucible and Gambit with clanmates, you receive bonus to your progress. If you’re not looking to grind all day to finish the Xenology quest.
Return to Xur
Once you completed the progress for step 1, go back to Xur and he’ll hand you your new exotic cipher. And now you’ve completed the Destiny 2 Xenology quest.
An important thing to note is that Xur will not give you an exotic cipher if you already have a copy of one in your inventory. Make sure to turn your cipher in before starting Xenology.
